If you want to watch a great hockey movie about the life best player the game as ever seen this is the movie for you. From the comments below that calls it propaganda demonstrate that a lot of people in the country still don't get it. Whats in the film is no fiction, its what really happened. Its a piece of our history and you cannot make a movie about the life of the Rocket any other way.

While I enjoyed the movie,I was dismayed that there was ONLY FRENCH AUDIO,even though the advertising stated that there was English Audio.
Also the suplement was in French ONLY! No English subtitles!

Thats what Maurice Richard was about.Maurice Richard was a hockey player way before Gretzky and today`s brand of hockey players.Maurice was the greatest player of his time and this movie was a great way to show it.He is known mostly in Quebec and Canada so its normal that the U.S fans never even heard his name.The movie covered history greatly exept some few details all great aspects of his carreer was covered.


Out of the many dvds that came and will come out this year Maurice Richard is one of those you need to get especially if you are a hockey fan.Maurice Richard the movie is made years after the Maurice Richard serie that was made in years ago for those who remember it.It once again features Roy Dupuis as Richard like the serie did but is not a documentary like the serie was,it is a real movie and was made in Quebec,Wherelse could have it been made?


Everithing was covered his wife Lucille is in most of the movie. They mentionned their daughter Hugette because when she was born she weighted 9 pounds and Maurice then imideatly changed his shirt number of 15 for number 9.but none of their other childrens
are mentionned and he had many.They covered his difficult teenages years were he worked as a machinist his early career,his fight with`the killer`,the legendary 50 goals in 50 games,the Campbell incident,the satanley cups and more.Even his brother in law was in the movie for many parts.


Maurice Richard was an honnest Hockey player who fighted for what he beleved in and said what he meant.The movie shows his hard childhood how had to work early to help his family,how bad he was treated by Dick Irvin his coach and how he had to talk english even if he didnt know the language.


I know i will hear people say Maurice Richard yeah right!That french-Canadian who cares?But in fact many people do and Quebec honore the name of Richard greatly even Gretzky didnt get a movie like this!It shows there are some people who cares and maybe people shouldnt criticize anymore.Some wont get the movie at all but its not our fault.


They covered eveything form his rookie season in the early 1940`s until 1955 where the league suspended him for the rest of the year.My only complaint is they didnt show his career past 1955 and they didnt show his brother Henri Richard who was also a great hockey player and won 11 stanley cups with the Montreal Canadians and passed him in points ranks.They just stop the movie brutaly by saying:the next year 1956 he returned to play and won 5 consecutive stanley cups until 1960,then there is a big plan of Maurice and its the end.

Conclusion:The movie is beautifull and i give it a rating of 5 stars highly recomended to any hockey fans.
