4.0 out of 5 stars That which we call a rose... July 29 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed the book several years ago under its American title Mediterranean Caper. Don't be caught as I was by the same book under another title. Mayday is the Mediterranean Caper under a different title... enjoyable but it's not necessary to buy both

2.0 out of 5 stars Reissue: beware; good if you haven't read it Jan. 5 2014
By Dr. Tim Parker TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Mediterranean Caper was a good Cussler yarn. I've read all his books, and this, along with some other books from the 80s, stand out as examples of his skill. Yes, these books became formulaic, cashing in on the name of the author by pushing out a couple (or more) books year, but they still are a decent read. These early novels were better than the later ones. So imaging my surprise on seeing a cover I didn't recognize under a new title, buying the book, then getting that deja vu feeling from the early pages, only to find out it was a renamed earlier book with a new cover. No mention of this fact anywhere. The publisher really screwed up here, almost reaching deceptive levels. As a Cussler fan, I felt very upset and betrayed.

As for the book, well, if you didn't read Mediterrean Caper, read it: it's a solid novel under any name. Just don't buy two copies like many of us were duped into doing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mayday Sept. 16 2005

My husband is a "Clive Cussler" fan, so I do my best to acquire as many of Clive's books for him, as possible.

I was very disappointed to learn that MAYDAY was the original title published in England and was the same story as Mediterranean Caper.

It's sad when two different titles of the same book, leaves the shopper to believe that they are two different stories.

We still love Clive, but don't care for the practice of publishing under a second title.

I have enjoyed most books by this author and I think this would be the one I liked most. I don't know whether it was the action, intrigue or maybe the fascination with the old plane that featured in the book. Worth reading.
