Product Description

"This account of the age-old bond between animals and children is ideally paced for read-aloud pleasure."—Kirkus

"A humorous read-aloud that’s both age-appropriate and entertaining...Sauer and Shea’s collaboration will entice readers."—School Library Journal

The adorably stilted language gives this go-round a fresh appeal, as do Shea’s wonderful digital illustrations, which put the roughly sketched Cave Boy atop constantly shifting and emotionally appropriate backgrounds of stone gray, hopeful yellow, and so on. The conclusion, in which the three animals save the day and all become pets, may make parents nervous. Pet-crazy kids, though, will say, “Me like.” --BOOKLIST, March 1, 2012

A Prehistoric Charmer March 6 2012
By Janee - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Ah...the stone-age old desire for a pet. Cave Boy is determined to find the perfect pet, but for very familiar reasons each (already loved and named) animal is declared unsuitable by one family member or another.

The illustrations are energetic and humorous, and the OOGA-fun caveman lingo makes this a super read aloud at home or in story time.

Hilarious and heartfelt March 7 2012
By Kimberly Norman - Published on
Format: Hardcover
If your child loves funny books, he'll love this one. But if you also like books with a little more heart, it's got that, too. Tammi Sauer gets everything just right in this book, from the hilarious "cave speak" of the characters to the funny situations to the satisfying ending. The illustrations are perfect for the story -- like comical cave paintings. For bedtime reading, kids are going to be saying "Me want that book!"

Me Like Story! June 29 2013
By Madigan McGillicuddy - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Ooga! This story certainly plays off the caveman stereotype - a fun little story about how Cave Boy acquires not one pet, but three. Cave Boy tries out a woolly mammoth, a saber-toothed tiger, and a dodo bird, but none of them work out - until they save the day during a stampede. Heavy black lines and bright colors make the illustrations easy to see from a distance. The book is full of Tarzan-like speech - simple sentences with no contractions. Pair this with Caveman, A B.C. Story by Janee Trasler for a very wacky, prehistoric storytime.
