Perfect Christmas Gift at $10 Dec 15 2010
By Ryan Encarnacion - Published on Amazon.com

What an amazing deal from Amazon to offer this before Christmas for only $10. We bought this as a gift for our 18 month old son, but couldn't resist giving it to him before Christmas. Lets just say we got a preview of what his reaction might be when he opens his other toys for Christmas. He was so excited by this pirate ship, and there's nothing better than seeing your child happy. Here's what we love about this great toy from Mega Bloks:

- Two compartments that your child will be happily opening and closing repetitively (one in the back of the ship, and one under the canon)
- Was worried about the little monkey being a choking hazard, but luckily he does not detach. The monkey actually acts as the button to play music, monkey noise, or ocean sounds.
- 4 tiny wheels on the bottom of ship make it really easy to pull along
- Real working canon which my son absolutely loved (no worries there, the ball does not come out with any kind of force)
- All the parts are pretty much detachable, so they can be rearranged many different ways.

Very few cons (not enough to give less than 5 stars):

- Packaging was a hassle. Took about 5 minutes to get everything clear and ready to play with (which is an eternity when you have a 18 month hold hanging on your leg wanting to play with his new toy.
- String was way too short (was able to replace with a longer string and added a handle to make pulling easier)
- Ship does not play music while toy is being pulled (have to press on the monkey)

All in all, this toy can provide hours of fun for any toddler. Get it now while it's on sale, but I can easily see that this toy would still be worth it even at $30.

Great toy Jan. 27 2011

This is an excellent toy. I know the product says 1+ but my son is three and absoultly loves this toy . We looked everywhere for a pirate ship for Christmas and could not find one that looked durable enough for him. Amazon sent me an email about toys on sale after the holiday and there it was. We got it on sale for only 11.99 the regular price was 39.99 but even at regular price it would be worth it. It has wheels so it can roll, plays music and has lots hidden hiding places for him to hide his treasures. The ship has some blocks included and also comes with a captain, a 1st mate, a little cannon that shoots a small soft ball ( which is great if you have other children it doesn't hurt if they get hit)and little shark.

2 1/2-year old loves it! May 20 2011

I wanted a pirate ship toy for my son that was durable, no small parts and fun for his age. I hesitated when I saw the "For ages 1+" on the box but went ahead after reading reviews from others with children over two. It's super cute and my son has lots of fun with it. The monkey plays fun songs and sounds when you push it. Not annoying. My son is a little old for pull-toys but he enjoys pushing it all over our wood floor. Great toy!

long-lasting toy with lots of different types of play potential. Feb. 28 2011
By Shannon B Davis - Published on Amazon.com

We love this toy! It has so much play potential - even Mama enjoys it. It is a pull toy for new walkers. It's also a make-believe toy, with a pirate and a ship's boy, a cannon that actually fires a cannonball, a treasure chest, and a very functional ship that even has a crow's nest and an undership quarters (which stores blocks). It has a secret compartment and a trap door. There is also a shark.

There is an adorable little monkey who provides the "musical" component. From the sound of a cannonball, to a monkey squawk, to two jaunty pirate jigs, the sound effects are great.

When your child starts playing with the blocks, they can re-arrange the pirate ship, removing the captain's quarters, changing the size of the crow's nest. My son enjoys playing with the ship and changing its configuration, taking it apart and putting it back together.

I like that it all packs together into one piece, so you can store all of the extra blocks and props inside the ship. It makes clean-up easy.

Great Pirate toy for young kids Jan. 5 2012

Gave this to my friend's 3 year old pirate-crazy girl for Christmas, and her 7 yr old brother loved it too. The only thing that would make it better would be to include a girl pirate person.

The toy has a lot of entertainment options: You can build things with the interlocking blocks and specialized pieces, there's a low-damage-inducing cannon for shooting things, there are 2 bins where things can be "hidden", there's a treasure to hide, it plays mercifully short yet catchy tunes, and it can be towed along. All in all, a great gift that stole the show on Christmas.

It was much larger than I expected, being over a foot long, and this was a good thing. I also liked that it was "friendly" pirates instead of creepy/scary/realistic pirates.
