Villainy is a way of life, but if a villain doesn't have a hero to battle, can he still expect the same sense of satisfaction from his evil deeds? When Megamind (Will Ferrell) finally defeats his long-time nemesis Metro Man (Brad Pitt), he ecstatically goes about laying ruin to Metro City, reveling in the fact that he can now have anything he wants. Surprisingly, Megamind's glee quickly turns to dissatisfaction as he realizes that the battle was half the fun and everything comes too easy now. Thus begins a plot to turn the nerdy Hal (Jonah Hill) into Tighten, a new hero for Megamind to battle. What Megamind doesn't count on is that Tighten may not turn out to be as good as he's meant to be. Nor does he anticipate falling in love with his old rival's girl Roxanne Ritchi (Tina Fey). In the end, Megamind finds he must rethink his assumptions about good, bad, and what makes him happy. Megamind and Despicable Me are remarkably similar movies: both deal with villains who are unfulfilled by their evil ways and who, despite their despicable natures, have some essential goodness deep down inside. Both villains are presented in highly stylized animation and the 3-D effects in each film are skillful and effective without being overdone. Megamind has Minion, who watches over him, while Gru has a whole crew of mindless minions supporting his evil ventures. Finally, both films are solidly entertaining. Because the two films were released within a few months of one another, speculation about who copied who will no doubt run rampant, but the bottom line is that both films are well worth seeing. Very well done movie that takes the overdone image of good guy/ bad guy and turns it on its ear. The authors and writers had a great canvas to create humourous situations and comedy that will appeal to both adults and kids. Like the Shrek series this story can be enjoyed on many different levels.... great original story

The Film 4/5

Hollywood has made more than its fair share of superhero movies since Superman (1978) was released, but the genre remains one of the most popular. Viewers, especially in North America, enjoy recapturing childhood memories and seeing their heroes on the big screen. Most of the plots are predictable, but that doesn't detract from the fun.

Megamind deviates from the traditional plot in the same way that Despicable Me did. We are asked to sympathize with the villain.

The movie begins with Megamind (Ferrell) leaving his parents in a ship when his planet is on the verge of destruction. Does that sound familiar? References are made to Superman throughout the film. While this is happening, a child is sent to safety from another world close to destruction. The two children fall to Earth and experience very different childhoods. Megamind lands in a prison yard, while the other child falls to wealthy parents and grows up to be Metro Man (Pitt).

Metro Man is squeaky clean and spends his time doing good deeds. He can fly and he's invulnerable. The city worships him. Megamind leaves jail and decides that he can't compete on those terms, so he decides to be bad.

This movie was a great treat for me, it was superheroes and villains. It felt very "Death of Superman" at the beginning to a small enough degree. The great Superman-like hero, constant protector, however in this version he's tired of doing it all the time. One thing leads to another and suddenly your evil genius "Megamind" is now the supreme ruler. He runs everything until he gets bored of being unopposed and decides to try and create and adversary. He ends up creating something quite greedy and evil and BAM! Villain turned hero story for him.

It was a nice voice cast and animation in this film. It's good for a few laughs if you're looking for a nice comedy for kids and adults both!

I first saw this in the theatre and knew I had to own it so I could watch it over, and over. It's very funny - for both children and adults alike. Some of the humour may not be understood by younger children, but it's hillarious for adults (yet isn't the riske humour some cartoon movies indulge in). A fun watch for sure!

This video clip illustrated that a bad guy always need a good guy so it would be glamorized itself in the media. What if a bad guy vanquish a good guy? The bad guy would be bored, and the bad guy needs to invent a bad guy to capture heart and mind of a girl that he wants. Watch it and love it.

The movie for kids that totally turns stereotypes around. The anti-hero becomes the hero. Lots of twists, lots of humour. The "hero" is totally endearing. I'm an adult, and I loved this movie. Some great one-liners in there! My kids were repeating them for weeks.
