5.0 out of 5 stars Melonnie: The Dark Side of Truth, Feb 20 2001

I'm usually an Ann Rice fan when it comes to my decisions of reading a vampire novel. Though she still is my number one writer, there is a new vampire writer on my bookshelf.

At first I was really scared of this book, especially after hearing about it from a few friends. But after reading the first few pages, I was hooked. It scared me, but most of all I felt like I was really there.

It was easy to read and it was up to my imagination to interoperate if the characters were good or not. There is a lot of hidden meaning in the way the book is written.

I normally speed-reading through the books easily, but this one made me slow down. I found that it was full of suspense and crazy hairpin turns, and for the first time in a long time, I felt really consumed.

The story line created a very believable world. The quality of the book was something impressive, well worth the money.

This is by far the best vampire book I've read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melonnie: The Dark Side of Truth, Feb 17 2001

This is not your typical book. For as long as I can remember I have read horror novels and stories by a variety of authors, and while each proclaims that he has a special style or flair, if you will, I have found that many seem to be very similar. D'avion's book, however, is different. While some authors spend a great deal of time imposing their conformist ideas on the unwitting public, through use of stereotypes and gore, D'avion uses poetry to impress his opinions on you while allowing you time to think and make your own judgment of the situation. This book incorporates ideas of passion, prejudice, religion and juxtaposed strengths and weaknesses, and, of course, horror, into the plot, without seeming bombastic. To put it plainly it is thought provoking, which is not something one commonly finds in a "horror" novel. Along with all of his other awesome peculiarities the reader will notice D'avion's unique style of writing. He includes the thoughts of the subject character in the general dialogue, along with a method of dictating the actions of the character in brackets that do not interrupt, but add to the plot, letting the reader visualize what the landscape and scenario might be like. It is impossible to read this story without becoming engrossed in the feel of it and truly appreciating what the main character is going through, because in some ways she is just like you. For these reasons and more I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in horror, or literature in general.
