5.0 out of 5 stars A Member of the Family - Fantastic Nov 4 2008
Format:Hardcover
Cesar Millan has written another great book. This book helps you to choose the right dog for your family and gives tips where to find that dog. He covers the how to from the first day you bring your dog home until the sad day when it's time to say good bye.

The book includes a chapter written by his wife and his two sons. Really is a family book.

I highly recommend this for first time dog owners and experienced owners. I am an experienced dog owner and will keep it in my library and read it over and over.

I have ordered copies as gifts. My daughter's friend is getting her first dog on December 1st and I want her to read this book before she gets her pup home.

This book gets owners off to the right start on their relationship with their dog and takes you through to the end.

I highly recommend this book. You won't have any regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have if you are a dog owner Sep 4 2009
Format:Hardcover
If you have watched Cesar Millan in "The Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel, you will understand why this man is so amazing with dogs. This book has so many gems in it, and specifics of what to do, such as checklists, toilet-training, leash-training, and so on. This book will become your handbook, it's something you will refer back to over and over again.

If you are interested in learning how dog training was done 70 years ago, please purchase Cesar Millan's work.

If you are motivated to have a fun, engaging training relationship with your dog, avoid Cesar. Instead head on over to some researched based training methods that are promoted by the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior.

Support work done by Sophia Yin, Karen Pryor, Patricia McConnell and Temple Grandin. These women actually have published research into how we communicate with animals (instead of passing on the 'wisdom' of our ancestors'). They have the added benefit of working with over 100 species with their methods. That's right. Their methods are not about dominating animals but actually the science of learning.

Need further referral? These are the experts that the American Military refer to when training their dogs. These are who veterinarians interested in the field of clinical behavior refer to.

Hurray! There are better ways than Cesar's!

p.s. The dominance theory of wolves was popularized then retracted by the biologist who studied an orphan wolf pack in captivity. Even if he hadn't, guess what? Captive orphans wolves do not behave like your dog.
