Not as good as the Toronto production,

I really enjoyed this musical live at the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts under Dancap in 2011. I was so impressed I bought the DVD right there on the spot. I should have waited to get home and buy it on Amazon because it is a better price here. Anyway, the performer playing the role of Dewey Phillips in this Broadway DVD ruined it for me. It's hard to put it into words, but he has an annoying twang in his voice. If he is trying to mimic a southern accent he fails miserably. The rest of the cast are stellar so I have to give it a 3 for them. If anyone else was playing Dewey I would probably rate it a 4 or 5. I always buy a DVD recording if available of any musical I see live so I had to include this in my collection, but you would think being the original Broadway production they could cast the leading role with a someone, anyone, who doesn't sound like a bratty 5 year old boy who can't get his way.

Having seen this on Broadway several times, I was glad to see this was now available via instant streaming on another site. I have already pre-ordered the DVD and can't wait for it to arrive. The instant stream is amazing. They really did a great job filming and you truly feel like you are there in person. It's also great to see the original Huey in the cast as I saw him perform the role before he left the cast for medical reasons. It's an amazing show live and an amazing show filmed.

I saw this play on broadway not too long ago and was blown away by the acting and mainly the musical scores. There is a little bit of something for all in here, comedy; drama; sounds and sights. They were selling this DVD for $30.00 at the door so this is a steal! Next best thing to being there but if you get the chance go see the actual play.

Did not see the Broadway production and was unfamiliar with the music....We loved it and highly recommend for viewing....the photography is at it's best and we had front row seats, no traffic or parking problems..wish there were more like this.......
