I bought this one on a lark in conjunction with InSecurity Season 1. Why in conjunction? Well, they're both CBC original series' and both Canadian. When I sat down to watch them I started with InSecurity, expecting it to be the better of the two. I did really enjoy Insecurity, but where that series took a few episodes to grow on me and wasn't always funny, Men with Brooms delivered the belly laughs right from the start.
I am not usually someone who laughs out loud easily or often, but this series found my funny bone on several occasions (the "stop pistol-whipping your father" line really cracked me up!). The writing just seemed to improve with each episode and by the end I really wanted more (season 2 on DVD soon PLEASE!). Quirky characters, memorably lines, really funny gags, and, I have to say, a VERY good looking cast of ladies (hey, I do notice these things) lead by the ravishng Aliyah O'Brien (who's as funny as she is beautiful) and Glenda Braganza would have made this series worth watching even if it had been a dud in the comedy department, which it definately is not.
If you get a chance watch this series in conjunction (there's that word again) with the Men With Brooms movie! Another funny little Canadian treat, though not nearly as funny as this series. And hey! Paul Gross, the star of the film, also appears in the series now and again (in every singleepisode in fact, if you coundt his voice). Check this one out.
