The analysis Smith so spiritedly and professionally dispenses, concerning the kinds of shoes, shirts, ties, jackets, and other necessary items that are available, as well as his pointers on how to wear these wardrobe ingredients well, leads his readers to an understanding that "fashion is what is out there for you to choose from; style is what you choose." I found this to be a funny, urbane and useful book. It is full of interesting little facts and larger important ones. The author does not preach and allows for dissent while guiding you though the minefield that is men's fashion and style. The words to live by and quotes add lightness and interest to what could be a stolid subject for some.It is a book that I will reference often; it's information and tips are timeless. Great book on Men's Style!

This is a wonderful book. It is a fascinating read for men who are erudite and would rather eschew the vagaries of fashion in favour of classic style. I found the simple black and white illustrations charming and an appropriate complement to the text - after all, this is more than just a simple guide on how to dress; it's also a lesson in history and culture. Big glossy pictures are not what this book is about.I've gotten a great deal of pleasure from reading this book, and know that it will be as relevant twenty or forty years from now as it is today. If your style icon is Cary Grant or George Clooney, this is the book for you.

Funny and practical,

Men's Style is a fun book. I was happy to "waste" money on it and even though I bought it for Mark, I ended up reading it first - I couldn't put it down! It made me laugh and I think that finally, this year, I won't feel like a complete idiot when I go shopping for men on my Christmas list.
