Great study material but !!,
This review is from: The Merck Veterinary Manual (Hardcover)
The paper is more thinner than the previous addition making reading a little difficult because the back side print is seen on the paper. but is still a great study material for vets.

A Must Have For Info Hungry Pet Owners!,

I am SO glad I bought this book, it's like a Bible for veterinarians but I'm not a vet! I've got lots of pets of a variety of species and there's always something going on with them, always some new ailment I've never heard of. Just last week I lost my Pomeranian buddy without warning to a "Mucocele" which is a gall bladder issue, so I set out to find a veterinary manual that would explain in detail what had happened. One day he was healthy & playing and 2 days later he was gone. This book has a lot of detailed information on it so I was able to talk intelligently with the surgeon on the sequence of events that led to my heartbreak. It confirmed that as our doctor said, there was nothing we could have done any differently. I also read in here about CL in goats. That is an awful disease where goats break out in abscessed lumps and there is no cure. My pygmy goat has CL and thanks to this book I now know the drainage from these lumps contains bacteria that can live for up to 8 months in soil and 3 months on wood fences.I've only begun to search thru this book and I already feel I've gotten my money's worth. It also has a section on poisonous substances and antidotes. Now don't get me wrong, this is not a "how to" book so you can do things on your own. It's a valuable tool for those who understand the medical lingo and have an interest in the details of veterinary care. It gives you a better understanding of why your veterinarian made certain choices, and you can research a diagnosis so you can work as a team with your pets doctor. I'm really very happy I bought this manual and I highly recommend it. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful

The tenth updated edition of the classic The Merck Veterinary Manual offers any practicing vet and veterinary libraries a powerful reference. Hundreds of color images include illustrations, endoscopic images, ultrasonographic results and more, while all 3,000 pages of this 'bible' have been updated to reflect the latest veterinary science practices. Coverage of all common domestic animals and newly expanded coverage of exotics and lab animals are offered in a key acquisition for any serious vet's collection.

I'm starting veterinary school in the fall, and I am using this book as a preview of what is to come. It has been very useful for that. It is a reference, so it is not the type of book that can easily be read from front to back. Rather, I am flipping through it to find interesting chapters that I think might be interesting to have some background in before I learn all of this in more detail in the vet med classes. It has color pictures, and lots of charts for medication and dosages. I'm told that this is a good review for the national boards that must be taken by everyone around graduation time.
