Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

A decorated military officer and founder of the Sterling Financial Group shares the secrets of success that made his company the fastest growing Hispanic-owned business. As a recent law school graduate, Garcia was on the brink of accepting a clerkship for a judge, when he took the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator Test (he suggests a variety of personality tests to discover potential). The test results convinced him that he would be happier going into business. According to Garcia, the key to success is finding out what you are passionate about and pursuing it. In order to accomplish this, he recommends a number of less-than-original strategies such as adequate planning and preparation, hooking up with successful people, finding a mentor and persevering despite setbacks. Laced throughout this manual are anecdotes that describe the author's considerable accomplishments (he is a former White House fellow) and those of others who have used the tools described here to realize their dreams. He draws heavily from the military and the Republican political establishment to illustrate his ideal of success (e.g., William Bennett, Ronald Reagan, Army Major General Loeffke, Jeb Bush). Since Garcia has achieved success, those just starting out in business may be inspired to try his techniques, but many others will be put off by a relentless positive style.

Forecast: Wiley is pushing this book, and is heavily concentrating on the Hispanic readership. (Publishers Weekly, October 13, 2003) --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful!, April 21 2004

The recipe for success isn't so tough to figure out, writes financial entrepreneur Charles Patrick Garcia. Start with a heaping helping of passion, then mix in equal parts hard work, integrity, belief and positive attitude. The quality of the final dish resides in the details, of course, so the former military intelligence officer outlines the actions you must take to succeed and the mindset you need to adopt. Garcia's easily digested writing style, peppered with plenty of real-world examples from the military, politics and business, makes this motivational book a rewarding repast. We suggests Garcia's success manual to managers looking for a refresher course in staying focused, inspired and on task.

4.0 out of 5 stars synchronicity, indeed!, Mar 3 2004
By

here is a light read with a heavy dose of motivation! if you are down about having resigned yourself to a life of mediocrity, mr. garcia has crafted just the pep talk you need. replete with apt anecdotes and real-life success stories, the book inspires you to greatness and a life of deliberate action.

"yes, you can succeed" fortuitously appeared in my life just as i was reevaluating my future. i gave a copy of the book to a friend wrestling with similar issues. if you are ready to start turning your dreams into reality, you should get yourself a copy, as well.
