1.0 out of 5 stars I do not recommend it, especially not for beginners, May 12 2004

This review is from: Method: Pilates - All in One Workout (Full Screen) (DVD)
Since other have adequetly described what the DVD entails I will just share my thoughts. I do not recommend it.

The warm up is OK. It's not great and it's not horrible, but I do think it is too long.

The cardio section is absolutely NUTS! I did not even get past about the first minute of it because she adds way too many dance moves way too fast. I could not even keep up with the second and third dance moves she added. Obviously I am not a seasoned dancer and I do not recommend this to anyone who is not a dancer. I'm sure it's a good workout if you can get through it, but since I couldn't even keep up it was worthless to me.

The centering section is a pretty good ab workout.

My problem with this DVD as a whole is that I had never done Pilates before I tried this and I this DVD does not explain anything about Pilates or what is important in Pilates before it begins. It think it is important to know why Pilates works and what you are supposed to focus on during Pilates in order to be really effective.

I do however, highly recommend Pilates for Dummies over this DVD. And it's not just for Dummies OR beginners. It's a great workout and it shows exactly how each exercise should be done. There is a beginning level and intermediate. Unless you have been doing Pilates for many, many years then I think anyone could benefit from Pilates for Dummies.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Good to Balance the Bad, April 21 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Method: Pilates - All in One Workout (Full Screen) (DVD)
I have had this DVD for quite a while and have found that it is one that ends up in the back of the cupboard unused. There are a couple of reasons for this. The primary one is that the cardio section of this tape is so hard to follow for someone with no dance experience (like myself) that I end up not feeling like I've had any kind of workout. The moves are hard to follow and there is really no instructor cueing to help much. Also, in order to properly do this section of the workout, you must have a fairly large space to work in. If your TV room is filled with furniture (as mine is) you will probably get more of a workout moving furniture around to accomodate the moves in the tape than you will from the actual tape. I liked the weight section in this portion of the tape, however, and I think they present moves that will tone you up without additional bulk.

The warm-up is too long for what it accomplishes. I did enjoy the final section, which is where you really get into the pilates, but there are so many other pilates workouts around now that I usually choose to do one of them over this tape, simply because I want a more complete workout and am so disappointed in the other sections.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not for everyone, April 3 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Method: Pilates - All in One Workout (Full Screen) (DVD)
This workout is not for beginner or someon without flexibility.

The dance rytham is too fast, the instructor does not go through step by step, she adds movement and works fast.

The warm up segment is good, and weigh segment is good, too.
