Product Description

The Entire Series On 4 DVDs.

From acclaimed filmmaker and author Michael Moore comes The Awful Truth, the most daring documentary show to hit the American public since Moore's own TV Nation. Now, for the first time, this Emmy nominated series is available in one complete DVD set.

In the spirit of his award winning film Bowling For Columbine, Moore skewers politicians and the public alike, placing himself squarely in the middle of today's most controversial issues and events. Join Moore as he goes on a crusade for justice with Cracker, the Corporate Crime Fighting Chicken, spreads holiday cheer to deserving tobacco executives with the "Voice Box Choir," and brings a street pimp to congress as the answer to campaign finance reform.

Shot in Moore's trademark "guerrilla video" style, each of the 24 half-hour episodes is filled with scathingly funny observations and humorous rants that boldly and ironically provide valuable commentary on today's cultural landscape.

Michael Moore has been called the new Mark Twain, but I really think that the leftist comedian he really deserves a comparison too is George Carlin. The bitter, 100% truthful intellectual comedy here is nothing short of brilliant. We often use the word "brilliant" when describing our favorite films, but this really is. Scenes like "Crackers, the Corporate-Crime-Fighting Chicken," "Haulin' Communism," and "Love Night" are laugh-out-loud. Rolling on the floor. Honest to God. It's funny that the right have been caught in a lie by Michael Moore, and criticize him to attempt to bury this lie. Because they're missing out on some of the most flawless humor produced by mankind in lieu of their elitism. Sad, really. Buy this disc and see what I mean!

Has anyone noticed that the negative reviews on this DVD collection mention absolutely nothing about the content of the material itself. Moore's segments on corporate crime, corporate greed and the social plight of many in this country is eye opening. Compared to many of this country's forefathers Moore is closer to being a "Real American" than the vast majority of his critics.

i've watched many of these episodes and found them at times funny at other times heartwrenching but most improtantly informative. a lot of people complain that michael moore is biased or that he spends all of his time conserative bashing etc, etc. but i think that they miss the fundamental points that he is making. take bowling for columbine i found it less of an anti-gun movie and more of an anti-fear movie. his message was that when you allow yourself to get caught up in the hype, you sign away your rights and your freedoms. when you get in a panic and you start to believe that the sky is falling or the russians are coming then you let your fear control you and you ignore the real problems. American healthcare and schools systems and city infrastucture and crime and poverty all these things are huge huge issues that have more of an impact on your day to day life than terrorism will ever have, but they get swept under the rug. the military gets more money than anything else yet there are little children starving in AMERICA. People dying becasue they can't afford to be healthy in AMERICA. That is Michael Moore's message, and you don't have to have a college education, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Corperations running the counrty and ruining lives and the enviroment raking in record profits, but the little everyday working man starving on the street becasue he's just been downsized/rightsized. yes, it is indeed very scary that such a large scale terrorist attack happened so close to home but the very minute you let fear control your life you forfeit your freedom, you forfeit what your forefathers worked so hard and died to achieve, America is a country built on ideals - Peace, Equality, Freedom, and they should never be forgotten, pushed aside etc. That's what michael moore's message is.

I did not know much about Micahel Moore when I first saw this. I was surprised at how funny it was. Moore tackles serious problems in US society with his inimmitable humour. I think I liked the first season best, when he is on stage in Chicago, his interaction with the audience is fantastic. Moore understands better than most that laughter is a very potent weapon, and also because his targets are such bores! Who can forget the episode of the Sodomobile, where he packs a pink RV with gays, and goes and confronts southern bigots? Or when the dying little girl is granted a last wish to dress in a white hood, and light cross outside the house of an inter-racial couple? As with all good humour, it is very serious beneath. Moore tries to help us see how laughable the right-wing groups that try to usurp the US are. Moore is never aggressive, he talks to everyone, and tries to help them see the errors of their ways. Too bad so few want to talk to him! He must have thicker skin than a rhino. The episode about the death penalty in Florida and Texas was bordering on the obscene, and my laughter was mixed with horror and disgust, but how the death penalty is handled in those states is obscene. People who gives this show a one star have not seen it.

I feel an overwhelming sadness for people who are so polarized by the convictions their daddies instilled in them that they cannot think for themselves. Michael Moore has an agenda: that is true. But he also uses only facts and TRUTH. For lies, check out Rush Limbagh or the Fox News channel. Anyone shopping at Amazon lives in a free country, and it is the duty of all free people to think for themselves and look at all sides of every issue. That most of America refuses to do so is a travesty in itself. And this is the heart of Michael Moore's documentaries. You don't have to agree with everything he says, but you have to be open to being challenged by facts you have not been exposed to before. You have to realize that sometimes (gasp!) the powers that be LIE. Once upon a time investigative reporters were hailed for their duty to the people when they uncovered hidden truths such as the Watergate scandal. Now most people want to ignore the truth and stay locked in their happy bubbles. Michael Moore is here to pop those bubbles, and it is about time someone did. This series is a great place to start, since it is not too much information at once when taken episode by episode. As a whole, this program is powerful, revealing, sometimes shocking, and always entertaining. The point here is to THINK, not to accept blindly. This should be required viewing for everyone.
