I didn't excpect such a good story from this book. The only reason I bought it was I had only five minutes before I had to leave the book store. And since this book was basically the only one in the teenager section that was not about Vampires or a girl living in a crumbling society I picked it. And once I started reading it I was amazed. The only book that is better than this one is the second book in the series which I ordered right after finishing the first book. This series is going to be the next Harry Potter and I can not wait until book 3.

I bought this book for my kidlets and we all loved it! I couldn't help but be caught up in the plight of the characters. I am anxiously awaiting the next one.

Story Description:

"My name is Michael Vey and there's something you don't know about me, something that scares people more than you would believe. It's my secret - and it's part of the story I'm about to tell you."

To everyone at Meridian High School, Michael Vey is just your average, ordinary fourteen-year-old. But Michael is anything but ordinary - in fact, he is electric.

When Michael's best friends, Ostin Liss and cheerleader Taylor Ridley, make an accidental discovery, the three of them learn that there are other kids with similar powers - and that someone, or something, is hunting them.

After Michael's mother is kidnapped, Michael will have to rely on his wits, his unique power, and his friends to combat the hunters, free his mother, and save the others.

My Review:

This was Paul Evans' first stab at a young adult novel and he didn't disappoint!! The story of Michael Vey is filled with action from the get-go and doesn't let up until the end. You'll literally be glued to the book until the last page is turned. I can't wait for the second instalment in the Michael Vey series!! Highly, highly recommended.

This is a very well written story. Though there are 'special powers' involved, the situations are life-like and the choices quite relevant for today's youth.
I also bought the CD version because I rarely sit down to read, but like to listen while working. (Better this than some modern music.) It is read at a good pace without over-dramatizing, but clear-enough distinction between the different characters. Well done! I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

I can get this from the states for over 30% off, and the Cdn dollar is still above the US. Why is that?
