Product Description

From Amazon.com

Donald Duck's nephews learn why holidays come once a year, Goofy and son discover the spirit of Santa, and Mickey and Minnie reenact a classic tale of giving in this all-new holiday offering. Kelsey Grammer (TV's Frasier) narrates as Donald hosts Christmas at his house, complete with an egg and pancake breakfast, a sled for each duckling in the closet, and Daisy under the mistletoe. But the celebration gets old fast when the boys' wish for Christmas every day comes true. Next up, Goofy's son wonders whether there is a Santa after the villainous Pete tells him there's not and he catches Dad impersonating the portly gift-giver. Goofy demonstrates the spirit of giving by taking a meal and presents to less-fortunate neighbors, and many Goofy-style mishaps later, father and son have a surprise visitor. In the third story, the mouse lovebirds give an updated spin to O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi," with Minnie having the heirloom watch with no chain and Mickey a harmonica with no case. This trio of Christmas stories adds up to an hour of heartfelt fun, capped off by the gang singing "Jingle Bells." Perfect holiday cheer for those 4 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs

1.0 out of 5 stars Fair Warning for Parents, Dec 30 2006
This review is from: Mickey S Once Upon a Christmas (DVD)
Having watched Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas with my kids I purchased this first movie thinking it would be the just as good if not better. Frankly I was disappointed. The first story with Donald's three nephews is okay in the tried ("tired"?) and true practice of the bratty boys discovering the true spirit of Christmas (not God or anything so non-PC, just the importance of being kind to people you love). It's harmless enough, but I sometimes wonder if I'm the only person in the world who's getting tired of hollywood boys doing the standard burping-belching schtick. Maybe children's writers could push the envelope and try to be funny without resorting to such stunts. The "Gift of the Magi" story is quite good with Mickey and Minnie selling their prized possessions to buy a gift for each other.

But I have to warn parents about the second short with Goofy and Max. In the course of the cartoon Max is presented with some very good reasons why there's no Santa. Sure, the real Santa comes through in the end, but if your child has half a brain (like my my kids) it will make for some very uncomfortable conversations as their logic centers mull over those arguments. Luckily I was able to present an opposing view (parent tip, tell them lots of kids in the world don't celebrate Christmas...it worked for me) but I wish I hadn't been put in that position. Gee thanks Disney...nice one!

In summary, I'd stick to Twice Upon a Christmas -- funny, touching, and cleverly animated -- but I'd pass on the first installment if I were you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Filled With Spirit, April 24 2004
My children love this movie - they occasionally ask for it even after the holidays are passed. I can't blame them - it's filled with three great stories. Donald Duck's selfish nephews wish it could be Christmas every day so they can get more presents. When their wish is granted, they discover it isn't always good to get what you ask for. In story two, Goofy and Max, his hip, teenage son, learn a lesson in love and believing when they discover the REAL Santa lives in each of us. And in the third story, Mickey and Minnie bring to life a cartoon version of the wonderfull story "The Gift of the Magi." Superb narration, entertaining animation, and a timeless message of love that reaches beyond Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent direct-to-video Disney flick!, Dec 22 2003

John Lindsey "John" (Socorro, New Mexico USA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mickey S Once Upon a Christmas (DVD)
This here is a collection of 3 Christmas themed stories narrated by Kelsey Grammer, the first story tells a " Groundhog Day"-esque tale about Huey, Duey and Luey wishing it was christmas everyday but their wish comes true, unforuntely it's really the same day repeating all the day but they must change it in order to get rid of the wish. The second story tells about Goofy with his son max who tries to prove the existence of Santa Claus then the final tale tells about Mickey whom must give up their two personal possesions for the sake of how they love each other.
A highly entertaining animated anthology nicely done each with a moral in the end, watch for the climax as the all stars of this movie come together for a christmas song. Cameos by Scrooge Mcduck from "Ducktales" and "Mortimer" the Rat.
