Great little remote with a good feel. Lights up when it's moved so you can easily see the buttons in the dark. I would have given it 5 stars if you didn't require a Kinect to control your TV. The original Xbox 360 remote, which isn't compatible with the Xbox One, was able to use TV codes to control your TV. With the new design, you either have to have a Kinect or purchase an IR Emitter to send out IR codes to control your TV as well.

Does what it's supposed to. It has some nice features like motion detection activating light, and I like the full-shell battery cover. Works faster and more reliably than Xbox Smartglass or Kinect, which is why we got it. Looks good amidst our other remotes, and has successfully survived spitup and spillage from a 3-month old.

Would buy again.

While trying to look clever with he lit keys the designers forgot to make the keys visible without the backlighting. They are faintly visible, but not anything like the high-contrast buttons you get on other devices. There are ways of achieving both daytime and nighttime visibility, like on a car's instruments, but Microsoft didn't do that. The problem with this is that you resolve to having it light up to do anything, giving it a shake if necessary. But like other devices with a motion/gyro sensor, sometimes it's not responding to you when you need it. So shake it again...

I also found the ergonomics of trying to control the remote single-handedly -- like any other remote -- to be more tiring and difficult. I don't know how this but it could just be that there's more pressure required on these buttons. With a curled thumb this can be hard.

Lastly, this isn't a significant improvement over the game controller in terms of functionality. The buttons are generic functions and do not include the keys for Blu-Ray or DVD. So instead you have to guess what a function button will do, try to pull up a media button menu on the screen, cursor over to the button, then select it. This is laborious and unintuitive. So if you are one of those who needs a quick-responding remote, then this will test your patience.

A must-have accessory if you take full advantage of the Xbox One's media capabilities. This remote is oddly shaped, but it is incredibly simple and easy to use. It has a built-in accelerometer that makes the remote buttons light up when you pick it up, making the buttons easy to see in a dark room. The material it is made out of is nice, although I can see it getting dirty over time. Also, the IR layout on the remote does make it a bit limited in where you can point it; you do have to actively point the remote towards the Xbox in order for the signal to be sent properly.

I have IR blasters connected to my Xbox so I can control my TV and Bell receiver all frome the Xbox. In my opinion, this remote beats the Logitech Harmony simply because of how simplistic the layout is. Plus, it uses standard AAA batteries.

Allows me to control Netflix, YouTube, iPlayer, Hulu, Sling and TV easily and quickly.

I guess I expected to to much out this device but for most of what I do it works fine. Will not work on youtube for some reason but works everywhere else. They will probably update it in the future and it will work perfect. Just for now if you watch alot of netflix its a must buy, otherwise it can wait.

By Lindsay Steeves TOP 500 REVIEWER on July 23 2014
I love this remote. I have always just used the Xbox controller in the past to navigate videos and would get frustrated at how the controller would go to sleep and I would have to wake it back up again before I could use it. I also often hit the wrong buttons and would wind up exiting the video instead of fast-forwarding or pausing. The buttons on the remote are clearly marked, so there's no confusion.

My Xbox One is fed in through my surround sound receiver and the volume and mute buttons work with no issue, which is great.

This remote is perfect. It's responsive, always awake and has really improved my ability to use Netflix or watch a DVD. Even navigating the dashboard is a breeze - I prefer it over the controller if I'm browsing the store or any menus. I also like that it lights up when you touch it and it even came with a pair of batteries, which is an added bonus.

Pro: It's great to be able to put down the controller while watching a movie or video, and the on-demand light-up keys (uses an accelerometer to determine when you're handling the remote) make it easy to use in the dark

Con: I don't have massive hands, but even I found my hands cramping while trying to thumb some buttons - so much so that I had to switch the remote to my left hand (I'm right-handed) in order to hit the most-used buttons.

Neutral: The back of the remote is covered in a silky smooth rubber that feels nice in your hands, but will make the remote slide off of just about anything.

It feels substantial. The soft rubberised texture is nice. The back light is automatically activated by picking it up. The lights are white and fade on and off quite nicely.

The only down-side is that I seem to be having range-problems. The signal has a hard time penetrating my coffee table. This wouldn't be a complaint at all for a regular remote. I suppose it's just a but disappointing because I expected it to operate much as the controllers do. However, I can see why it wouldn't---the battery life would be dismal.
