Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Keeping in touch and communicating with customers is essential for any business. A complete business publishing and marketing materials solution, Publisher 2003 can help you reach out to customers. With Publisher 2003, it's easier than ever to design, create, and publish professional marketing and communication materials in-house.

Publisher 2003 is a comprehensive solution for creating and publishing a wide variety of publications for desktop printing, commercial printing, e-mail distribution, or viewing on the Web.

  • Create a comprehensive selection of business publications using new Web site wizards, such as the Easy Web Site Builder, and e-mail wizards, like the e-mail newsletter. Or, create print publications, including brochures, newsletters, postcards, CD or DVD labels, and other publications.
  • Create personal publications using an expanded collection of templates, including personal stationery sets and professionally designed greeting cards and invitations.
  • Automatically create a publication that merges pictures and text from a data source (like Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access) using Catalog Merge to create publications ranging from a datasheet to a sophisticated catalog.
  • Work more flexibly with commercial printers for higher quality and larger quantity print jobs, with new support for process-color—or cyan-magenta-yellow-black (CMYK)—composite postscript files.
  • Make the most of the time you invest in your work by publishing a single publication in multiple ways: Print it to your desktop printer; take it to a commercial printer; save it to the Web; and send a single page in an e-mail message or the entire publication as an attachment.
Publisher 2003 provides all the help you need for professional results. Start from professionally designed templates that you can customize with color schemes, font schemes, various layout options, and your own design sense. Or, start from blank publications and get creative with sophisticated typography and page layout tools.
  • Promote a consistent identity across all your business communication materials when you select from 10 new Master Design Sets (for a total of 45). Master Design Sets are collections of commonly used business publication templates (including newsletters, postcards, flyers, Web sites, e-mail announcements, and other publications), each with its own design.
  • Identify unintended printing and Web site problems and get help fixing them using the enhanced Design Checker.
  • Enjoy increased control over your publication with improved Layout Guides, Baseline Alignment and Baseline Guides, the Page Sorter, and support for multiple Master Pages.
  • Benefit from increased flexibility during the planning and layout phase. You can insert empty picture frames as placeholders before you've selected final imagery for your publication.
  • Expand your collection of content by downloading templates from Templates on Microsoft Office Online. Organize and access them in the Templates category of the New Publication task pane. Learn more about Office Online.
Publisher 2003 looks and works more like other programs in the Microsoft Office System, making it easier than ever to use the right Office tool for the task, while still making the most of your knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office System. New features include:
  • Paragraph-formatting consistency with Microsoft Office Word 2003, including indents and spacing, and line and paragraph breaks.
  • A new Bullets and Numbering dialog box.
  • The ability to find and replace text across stories and text boxes. Backward compatibility so you can open Publisher 2003 files in Publisher 2002 and share your files more easily.
Getting started is easier than ever with the simplified Start screen in Publisher 2003.
  • Use new categories from the New Publication task pane. Choose to start your design by publication type (for print, e-mail, or the Web), by a specific Design Set, or from a blank publication.
  • Use the Quick Publication Options task pane to customize a publication. Choose color schemes, font schemes, layout options, and design, and then customize the publication with your own text and graphics.

1.0 out of 5 stars Installation a Disaster, Nov 25 2003

I have been a happy user of FrontPage 2002 and looked forward to the FP 2003 upgrade. When I installed it, the program worked pretty well, but it wreaked havoc with just about everything else on my hard drive. My word processor (Word Perfect 10) wouldn't open, I had to reboot the computer after the monitor went into the blacked-out energy-saving mode, getting on line was a struggle and most other functions slowed noticeably.

When I un-installed FP 2003 (and reinstalled FP 2002), everything ran smoothly.

When and if Microsoft does a major fix to remove the bugs in this new program, I no doubt will think better of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars User-friendly, great for everyone-even beginners!, Aug 25 2005
By E Hawley "elhawley" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Microsoft Publisher 2003 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I have been using Publisher (in its various incarnations) for several years now. One thing that I really like about this particular version is that you can edit a text box in Word. This sounds very complex, but it makes life very easy when you need to use a list with bullets, and can't get the spacing to work in just Publisher. That feature is a really nice addition.

Even though I usually create my own greeting cards, I really like the quick layouts. When I'm crunched for time, Publisher 2003 makes it very easy to print the right card and make it your own. As far as graphics go, you have access to a huge collection of graphics from the Office clip art website. I have found graphics for every occassion, and then some!

Above all, Publisher 2003 is quite easy to use. The program offers a good "help" section with tips, suggestions and solutions to your questions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Still Not a Professional Program, Jun 22 2006

No save to PDF feature.

No save to EPS feature.

Don't let all the bells and whistles fool you... if you plan on taking your files to a printshop be sure they FULLY support Microsoft programs before you buy this program because it can cause a myriad of problems when outputting to postscript RIP devices such as image setters.

Until Microsoft fully understands the printing process, this program should be used primarily by people who will be printing to a home desktop printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this program!, Aug 10 2005

I'm not a computer guru so needless to say I was a bit apprehensive at first to do our church newsletter using this program. But to my surprise, it was very easy. Everything is laid out for you. I just love it!
