I purchased this mouse in January 2010 and thought it was a great mouse, that is until this morning. My laptop said my device malfunctioned and when I tried to take the nano transmitter out of the USB port, I burned my fingers! It was fried. I tried my roommates mouse in my ports to ensure that no damage was done either by or to my laptop and it worked just fine. The metal casing around has since fallen off. I will be contacting Microsoft as the previous post recommends to ask for a replacement as there is still over two years of warranty left on this product.

I bought this mouse 8 days ago and today the nano-transceiver burned out. If left in a usb port for more than 5 minutes it could burn your fingers when trying to remove it. Microsoft may offer free replacements with no questions asked but it's not worth it if every replacement they send for two years just craps out on you. This problem is with the transceiver itself and not the mouse, so while the Mouse works as I expected, no other Microsoft nano-transceiver will last, even if you buy a different model mouse.

I have had this mouse for 3 days now and there are both pros and cons.

Pros:

-the nano receiver is.. well.. nano. I leave it plugged in to the laptop when I change locations.
-It looks nice and moves really smoothly
-Its small size means easy storage in a bag for portability.
-it has buttons on both sides of the mouse.. main reason for buying it.
-comfortable for short term usage
-rubber on the side has a nice feel.

Cons:

-It doesn't automatically change channels in heavy interference locations. It means you have to unplug and re-plug in the transceiver if the mouse starts responding intermittently. Not a huge deal, but maybe spread spectrum should be used.

-The mouse wheel (page scroll) doesn't work in ALL programs. I have already found three programs that this Microsoft mouse function will not work in. These are programs that a generic hardwire mouse has no problems with. Strange. So if I want to use the mouse in say "Keil uVision" I have to switch back to the hardwired mouse.. lame.

-The side-side wheel function works almost No programs, not even MS Office 2007. The only one I find that it does work in is Google Chrome.. stange

-The buttons are a little on the small side.

-Not only are they small, the thumb button (on the side) is put too far forward, which means the mouse has to be held at an angle. This adds discomfort.

-The mouse is very small, so if you have medium to large size hands, then this mouse will cause cramps with long time usage. Especially with how it has to be held at an angle.

Conclusion
I bought this mouse because it has a nano transceiver and 5 buttons (one on each side).

I received this mouse, and at first, I was pleased with it. It does what a mouse does. The dongle is small, I don't have to remove it from my laptop everytime, and it's a mouse. The mousewheel doesn't click as you roll it, but it works well.

Suddenly, the mouse stops working completely. Pretty frustrated, 1 month in, I return it to Amazon. It was probably a random failure. They send me a new one, I'm happy with it. Two weeks pass, and then BAM! I'm out of a mouse again. Two mice, two defective mice. Turns out, after a few searches, this is a very common problem Microsoft doesn't seem to want to solve. Google "Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000 overheat" to see more.

That was my second mouse of that model, and my last. I'm getting a refund. No more Microsoft. This mouse has caused me too much frustration for the benefit it brought. Conclusion: Do not buy this mouse whatever the circumstances. Not worth it!

As the other reviewer stated, call Microsoft at 800-360-7561 and they will send you a replacement. The call took about three minutes, and I have a replacement on the way. The rep stated that the problem is fixed, and there should no longer be any issues with overheating and malfunctioning transceivers. BTW, I really like the mouse. It works on any surface except for glass or anything super-reflective. It also has great range, and I have used it for presentations with my laptop across the room. With Windows 7 the two extra side buttons can be assigned some really cool and useful functions.

A fine wireless mouse. I've purchased two of them because as I liked the first one so much. Smooth responsive wheel for scrolling. Blue track beam works great on nearly any surface including fabrics (I finally foiled it with a reflective glass table). Positive crisp clicks. Nice ergonomic design. USB piece is compact. A small light or some other visible reminder to turn off the blue-track power switch would be a nice feature for forgetful folks like me who too often walk away and waste battery life. All in all a good product that performs as advertized.

Hi
I just recently bought this mouse, they shipped it in 2 days which was pretty impressive. So far the mouse is working great, and there has not been any issues with the usb being overheated or other problems that many ppl are facing. I dont know if the problem will arise later, or maybe they fixed da problem. SO i would definitely recommend this to other ppl.
