HASH(0x9d5a4b10) out of 5 stars Fascinating July 15 2013

I spotted this book at the airport in Abu Dhabi and ordered it when I got home to the U.S. This book is fascinating and well-organized. I like it in particular because the other books about Arab culture that I've read have been dense and academic, but this book is easy to read without sacrificing content. I like how the author explained the social/racial hierarchy in the Middle East, and how she contrasts the various cultures in the Middle East.

I am finding the information very helpful since I am soon traveling to Saudi Arabia (I am a woman) on business with my husband. The only flaw is that the book was written before much of the Arab Spring so some of the safety/travel/country information is outdated, although the author does suggest you visit the State Department's website and also use advice from local business associates as to travel in their country. After my trip, I will be able to better ascertain how accurate the information really is.
