First off let me say this work has absolutely nothing in common with Anne Rice's work! I read all of Anne Rice's vampire chronicals and a couple of extras, like Pandora and Blood and Gold, before I even heard of Sonja Blue and let me tell you, after you read Midnight Blue you will never want to pick up another Vampire novel! This book has no Vampire love, and especially no homo-erotic tones ala Anne Rice. Sonja Blue is the coolest character ever created, hands down. Everyone should read this set of books if you are into horror, Vampires, and aren't easily offended. These books are Gory, explicit, and cool as hell. The only problem I have with this series is that there are only three books. After you read this you will hope for more but, sadly, there isnt. I Give this book 2 thumbs up, 5 Gold Stars, etc.... Pick this one up!

I love Nancy A. Collins! ( I just spent $...on one of her out of print books!) I started by picking up the 4th book in her series, not knowing it. Then I picked up this book a few years later. I had it completly finished in three weeks, that is about a book a week. The tales of Sonja Blue are intriging and exciting. For the weak at heart, this book is VERY graphic, and not for young kids. Sonja's personal battles with the vampire inside of her make these books a battle within the ultimate battle.

I brought this book home from the bookstore and immediately started reading it. The cover had really stood out in the bleak, tiny horror section at Borders. I didn't put it down until i was finished three nights later. I fell asleep exhausted and had the most vivid, palpable dreams of my life. I'd do anything to experience them again.

For anyone interested in dark fantasy, goth themes, and/or what I'd now call the "Vampire Genre", this book is great! If you have read Nancy Collins before, be forewarned that this is a compilation of three novels: Sunglasses After Dark, In The Blood, and Paint It Black. It's frustrating to invest in a new book, only to discover you've read it before! However! Although this book is actually three separate works, they fit together perfectly. Since the huge response to Anne Rice's Interview With The Vampire, and her subsequent novels, I couldn't get enough of vampire heroes and especially, heroines. Nancy Collins was not only there with a believeable heroine, but one living in the present day. Sonja Blue is tough, vampiric, and very much one to hold a grudge against the Vampire who made her "unlife" what it is today! On a crusade to eliminate the one who took away her human self, she fights a constant battle to hang on to her own humanity. The battle to hang on to her mental equilibrium, and pacify the vampire personality that shares her mind makes her tough but practical, and down to earth, and it's easy to identify with her. The beginning of the book was the only place that might have lost me, and there's my only real critisism. It takes a while to catch on to the plot, but it's worth it to hang in there! Once you get the idea of what's going on, it's smooth reading all the way to the last pages. One of the features that Collins uses in her "darker" reality, is that of creatures such as Ogres, and Werewolves, although it takes a special kind of human, or another "pretender" as she calls it, to know who is human, and what is not.Read more ›

I devoured this book. But I'll be the first to say that it it EXTREMLY graphic, both sexually, and concering violence. Sometimes both combined. But then, I'm an odd duck. I thought the book was chillingly, and shockingly wonderful. The only thing I could find "wrong" with anything concering the Midnight Blue Collection was this: If you bought each of the three book seperatly, you wouldn't know what was going on if you didn't start at the beginning. If someone bought "In The Blood" first, they might not enjoy it beceause they don't get a chance to get to know Sonja and her blood-stained, chaotic history. So as long as you aren't a child (which I mean litterally, not metaphorically), and have a taste for bloody, sexy vampire books, you'll eat this one up just like I did. Rock on, Nancy!

That is all i can say about the book is Wow.If you hate it or if you like it.You still are going to say wow.At first i didn't think i would like it.Someone told me that is was a very sick book. But boy were they wrong.I really didn't like the first part. But the last two parts were really good. The only thing i don't like is the abuse in the book.I have never read a author like nancy collins. She is just a great author.

I can see I'm probably in the minority here among reviewers, but I could not get into this book. The characters seemed very unappealing to me, the plotting weak, and whoever did the editting on this volume should probably be fired for all the mistakes I spotted with paragraphs that should have been in italics but weren't, or that changed back and forth in the middle of a word. Overall, reading this book left me feeling bored.

I truely love this book! I gave this book a rating five stars because of how it flow. It is truely original and unique! I expected vampire traditions & cliches like in most books, to my surprise, there were little & it was truely a good read. Sonja battles herself as well as vampires! The Other is an alter ego she battles mentally to remain humanly sane. Her life begins in a whole new journey after her old life dies. Once she was a celebrity daughter of a multi-millionaire Denise Thorne, one horrific night changed her life and started a whole new journey of self discovery! She was not a true vampire she was something else. Wow, I was in disbelief she was something that I would have never thought of. This book was truely a page turner wanting to know what would happen next. I was please to find this book wasn't a typical vampire book cliche. There were some personal things I dislike, like after the vampires die they turn to goo instead of dust, like in Buffy, but that my preference! I'm glad I bought the collection instead of the individual books, because I was truely hungery for more once a book was done. I just keep reading. This book was recommend to me and I would like to recommend this book collection to others. If your a diehard Buffy fan read this book with an open mind or you'll dislike it!!
