WHAT EVIL LURKS BEYOND THE WELL-TRIMMED HEDGES OF MIDSOMER…

The cozy villages of Midsomer County reveal their most sinister secrets in these contemporary British television mysteries inspired by the novels of Caroline Graham, modern master of the English village mystery. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (John Nettles, Bergerac) has policed the murderous county for decades, and now he’s ready to retire. In these four episodes, Barnaby investigates his final cases before leaving the denizens of Midsomer in the capable hands of his cousin, DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon, Life of Riley). Also starring Jason Hughes as Detective Sergeant Ben Jones.

THE MYSTERIES MASTER CLASS - When world-famous pianist Sir Michael Fielding offers an audition-only master class in Midsomer, the competition is fierce. Introverted, anxious piano prodigy Zoe Stock wins a place in the class, but soon afterward witnesses a drowning that reminds Barnaby of a 20-year-old case. The detectives race to investigate a scandal from the past in order to prevent another death in the present.

THE NOBLE ART - When Midsomer Morchard resident John Kinsella wins an international boxing title, it seems that everyone in town is delighted with his success, especially wealthy landowner Gerald Farquaharson. However, the celebrations sour during a reenactment of a Victorian prizefight, which reveals a story of greed, resentments, and complex entanglements that threaten to turn deadly.

NOT IN MY BACK YARD - Maureen Stubbs of the Midsomer Conservation Society is aghast at a wealthy builder’s plans for a modern development in bucolic Pelfe Chase. After Stubbs is murdered, the detectives’ investigation reveals that she may have been responsible for a string of burglaries and vandalism targeting supporters of the development.

FIT FOR MURDER - A relaxing weekend at the spa turns into another murder investigation when Joyce finds a body in the spa’s flotation chamber. The detectives discover several possible motives, including a feud between the spa’s owners and their neighbors and a mysterious manuscript. After solving the crime, Barnaby decides it’s time to pass the torch to his cousin, DCI John Barnaby.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's okay, but not as charming as episodes past Jan 28 2013
Format:DVD
DCI Tom Barnaby is retiring. These episodes do not carry off the believability of those that have gone before. There are some silly methods of murder, like filling a car with cement. Did the murderer really think this would somehow hide the body? We are sad to see John Nettles go, because it looks like he's taking all that Midsomer was, with him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Midsomer Murders 20 April 17 2012

This is another of John Nettles series. Although this is the last one he is in, I will still be glad to see that more will come out. As to whether they continue this series once cousin "John" Barnaby takes over remains to be seen. I see that there are a few more that will come out after "Tom" leaves, but as to whether they continue it, I don't know, I just hope so, as I really have enjoyed all of the movies. My one point is, though, I decided to buy this from amazon.com because it was cheaper there, than what they were selling for it here, and I refuse to buy something like this for more than 40 CAD. Even though I have the whole series and have enjoyed watching these mysteries many times over since I bought them I don't think that having to pay (about 14 CAD/movie in a package of 4 per series) is worth it, so if you CAN get it cheaper elsewhere, I'd advise it. Most of them I have bought through amazon.ca because it was usually cheaper to do so. In regards to the whole series that is out, I know you won't regret it, as I sure haven't!

5.0 out of 5 stars Go for it! Aug 27 2012

Once again, a WINNER!! For those of you who have watched and enjoyed all the previous sets of Midsomer Murders...GO FOR THIS ONE TOO, each episode is full of energy, good characters and story lines!! I watched them all three times..( as I always do)

What a EXCELLENT "bow-out" by John Nettles. It was probably the very best "closing of a character" in any series that I have ever watch. Barnaby's cousin slides right into his shoes effortlessly.
I was very sad to see John Nettles leave the show, but, hats off to him for so many wonderful years playing Barnaby for us. I have bought every single set from every year.. ..and this set is just a good, no disappointments. :-))

I haven't seen any of the new episodes without John Nettles yet...but all my family 'on the other side of the Pond', say that they are still watching the shows, and Midsomer has not missed a beat! ( Phew! So glad to hear that! ) Everyone says that Sykes,- the dog belonging to the new Barnaby- completes the show. So, I am waiting with impatient anticipation for the next release of Midsomer Murders!!!!

LONG MAY MIDSOMER RUN!

Both thumbs upward for this ' Set 20.'
