4.0 out of 5 stars Good size crate April 5 2014

Puppy likes it. Wished the tray couldn't slide out so easily. We have another
crate and we prefer the locking mechanism on it to the locking mechanism on this one - this ones locking
mechanism works just fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Arrived in bad condition.....3 TIMES !!! Aug. 7 2012
Verified Purchase
I ordered this cage as my dog's old cage had become too small as he was growing. For the first order that I placed, the cage arrived in bad condition...one of the rubber feet on the bottom was missing and one of the doors wouldn't close properly. The part of the locking mechanism that slides into the loop was badly aligned. I tried bending it back into place however it was still difficult to close alone since there are 2 hinges to close while putting pressure to force it into place. Called Amazon to complain and they quickly processed another order and shipped using Express shipping at no extra cost.

Received the 2nd cage...just as bad as the first if not worse. This time the cage could barely be unfolded after opening the box. I had to really force to get it to unfold and in doing so, one of the metal clasps that holds the panels together flew right off. Aside from that, once again, the door didn't close properly at all. In fact the door was totally off it's hinge. Rather than take pliers to unbend the hinge to put it back into place and end up scratching the whole thing, I called Amazon again to complain. Once again, they were very courteous and helpful and processed yet another replacement, this time using Priority shipping at no extra cost.

Received the 3rd cage...same ordeal all over again. Missing 2 rubber feet and a few of the bars were totally bent out of place. Although they would be very easy to bend back into place, I felt it was totally unacceptable to receive a "brand new" item already in bad condition...for the THIRD TIME IN A ROW!!!

Called Amazon once again and this time simply cancelled the order altogether.

I must say, Amazon has been phenomenal throughout the whole thing!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic Necessity for a City Dog May 14 2006

If you have a medium sized doggie and are looking for a crate because you live in an apartment, this particular model is a good choice. Crate training is amazingly simple (just don't use it for punishment--make it a happy experience when your puppy go into his crate). We have been using this for two months, and he takes to it easily.

1. Easy to put together and fold away. Solid black e-coat steel wire, conjoined with small metal plates with welded corners facing out. It comes with a slightly smaller divider that you can hook to the insides of the crate. As our puppy got bigger, we moved the divider and eventually removed it.

2. The two doors (one on the long end is off-centered) are not removable and opens only one way so it's not omni-directional when you place it in tight spaces. You may want to check out some crates with three doors if so.

3. The bottom tray is made of black-composite plastic material, easy to wipe clean and slide out from under the short end of the door.

4. I like the double latch, but some people may find it a little more work to open and close day-to-day.

5. If you buy a crate cover, check out Cratewear Pet Dreams 3-Piece (which fits this model well, but only work with the door on the short end).

6. For this price, it's a good crate to highly consider because your goal is to have a sanctuary for your puppy (for time out and quiet-time) and to housebreak your dog and/or temperate from negative behavior (such as chewing furniture, etc.)

I hope this review is helpful for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great crate Dec 21 2005

I bought this crate for my 30-lb beagle/terrier mix dog and it's great. It folds up in a cinch (it's literally 3 steps and takes about 10 seconds max) and has carry handles on the side, so it's really easy to transport. I like having the 2 doors so I have options of how I can place the crate in a room. There are latches on the top and bottom of each door so it's very secure. Great crate!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best I've owned March 22 2013
By HPvet - Published on Amazon.com

Having raised and cage trained many dogs from pups, we've usually given the bulky cages away after successful house breaking. We found this to be the best we have owned over the years because:

1) Cage is very sturdy. Others we have used have had much thinner and more easily bent wire.
2) Two doors. Inevitably you need to place the cage in a position where a side door is needed.
3) Divider to constrain puppies. A divider is the way to train a small pup, limiting their ability to relieve themselves to only where they rest. They get it much more quickly. In every other situation, I built my own divider out of plywood. This would have saved me construction time and readjusting as they grew. Another suggestion - Don't use towels or blankets that might absorb urine during taining. Once or twice and your dog "gets it." Introduce a blanket or pad only after they are trustworthy in the crate.
4) Best fold and setup of any cage I have owned.
5) Price. Checked out three big box pet stores. This was a better value for all the items above at a lower price.
6) Liked the plastic tray for our situation as our dog is house broken and not a chewer. Think a metal insert might have been better for pups.

Cons:

1) Rough spots on wire end edge at doorways. I used a fine file to smooth out the sharp edges I found on several wire ends. The manufacturer should have done the same smoothing they used on the corners at the door openings.
2) Clips not fully closed. There are metal clips that act as hinges for set up and fold down. Several were not completely clamped close, again making an unsafe edge for you or your pet. A pliers made quick work of that problem.

I really wanted to give this product a five. But I just felt the slight safety issue was significant enough to mark it down to a four. No blood should ever be spilled by either pet or owner.

Update: The manufacturer contacted me via Email on this issue. Manufacturing mgmt wanted the date code off the unit to remedy the problem I am very impressed by their followup and attention to Amazon comments!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Crate that I will use!!!!!!!!!!!!!! June 4 2010
By gonzoa - Published on Amazon.com

We have three dogs. One is a 45 lb Boxer, another is a 30 lb. Boxer/Pitbull mix, and the last one is an 75 lb. Pitbull. We have owned a 36" Midwest Life Stages crate for over six years that has been used by each one of our dogs; and have gone through four 36" ASPCA crates.

We had the initially purchased the Midewest for our Boxer at a local pet store for $120.00 (we didn't know how cheap they were at Amazon). When it came time to buy crates for the other two we decided to buy two ASPCA crates for $75.00 each. Our dogs are extremely hyper, and get EXTREME seperation anxiety. Long story short...we left for two hours, and came back to both ASPCA crates being ripped to pieces. The welds on the crates were broken, and the plastic trays that lined them were broken and chewed to bits. Because it was so easy for them to bend the bars on the ASPCA crates, one of the dogs (the boxer) pulled down the front portion of the crate and was able to escape (thank God she wasn't hurt). The only crate left standing was the Midwest, in pristine condition, that held our 75 lb. Pitbull on this particular occassion. We then purchased two more crates (I forget the brand), and they broke those crates to bits as well.

I just purchased three brand new 36" Midwest Life Stages Crates for $54.00 each from Amazon, and they were delivered the next day for only $3.99 shipping and handling (I signed up for the free membership trial). We have been using them for the past week, and there is not so much as a bent bar!

I highly, highly, highly recommend these crates!!!!!!!! They are extremely durable (even for the big, strong, and hyper). They will last you a lifetime, and you can not beat this price anywhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful crate for a pup to grow into Nov. 28 2007
By L. Poulios - Published on Amazon.com
We purchased this crate for our new 10-lb Labrador pup (who will eventually be 80+ lbs), and I couldn't be happpier with it. I only wish I had known about it 10 years ago when we got our German Shepherd pup, as we purchased multiple crates to accomodate her growing size. There is little to no set-up needed, as it literally just pops right up when you take it out of the box. The construction is very durable, with rounded edges. I thought the pan in the bottom would be cold for my dog, but it's made of some material that seems to always be warm. The adjustable divider that comes with it is very easy to move. My pup is very happy in his space!
