Product Description

From Amazon.com

In the weeks leading up to this album's release, Robert Plant was the unlikely hit at the South By Southwest music festival, delivering such a scorching set with his band the Strange Sensation rockers a quarter of his age simply got back on their planes and went home without playing a note. This can most likely be attributed to the fact that, unlike most his classic rock peers, Plant has rarely settled since moving on from the Led Zeppelin behemoth. Over the course of eight solo albums, he's experimented with doo-wop, synth-pop and even drum'n' bass. But it's only at 56 that the Golden God is hitting his stride. On "Tin Pan Valley," he sings, "My peers may flirt with cabaret/ Some fake the rebel yell/ Me, I'm moving up higher ground/ I must escape their hell." Mighty Rearranger draws out the best qualities of his otherworldly voice, surrounding it with rich Middle Eastern textures, soft blues accents and gorgeous psychedelic swooshes. It's in keeping with the spirit of 2002's exotic and lush Dreamland, only it sounds more refined. The quiet bits are quieter and the loud bits are timely reminders that Plant was once a man possessed by a dozen dead wolverines. He's not kidding when on "Shine It All Around," he sings, "These are the days of my life/ Bright, strong and golden." --Aidin Vaziri

5.0 out of 5 stars Plants deepest roots, May 18 2005

Having been a fan of Robert Plant for more than thirty years, I have had the pleasure of listening to countless songs, renditions and remixes of songs, Zep lead, and solo work. Robert Plant's career has been one of the most diversified and eclectic as any other in music and that is why I have stuck with him over the years.
Yes, his time with Led Zeppelin was his gargantuan dive into the world of superstardom, and deservedly so. However, it's his solo work that has ultimately shown the man for what he is, a true musician.
The solo career of Plant has given us a complete look at his capabilities both as an accomplished wordsmith and as a worldly, experienced musical conduit.
I didn't think he could top the powerful and interesting Dreamland, but listening to The Mighty Rearranger has exceeded my wildest dreams. If you are a Robert Plant fan, or even just curious to see if he's 'still got the voice' you have to buy this album.
There has been many reviews of how songs like Shine it all Around harken back to his Zep days. While it is a rockin' good song, face it people, Led Zeppelin is over. It was another time, another glorious place but the rest of the album shows us, in no uncertain terms, Robert has moved on. Let us all move on with him.
Freedom Fries is a wonderful tune filled with his political views on world politics - a good shot at the American instigated war. Worth the price of the cd just for that tune alone.
Brother Ray is a shout out to the late, great Ray Charles. A nice little rememberance.
Tin Pan Alley really showcases Plants range of vocal talent, which incidentally, keeps getting better with age.
The whole cd has an intimacy of voice that R.P. fans have come to know and love.
Don't miss this great achievement.
Let go of the past and travel along with Robert Plant on his magical trip through the musical ether. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let the journey begin....

5.0 out of 5 stars so zep but so now, Sep 8 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Mighty Rearranger (Audio CD)
this music allowed me to be in two places at once, revelling in the intense heat of the early seventies and basking in the slow burn of my life now in the new millenium. If you ever wondered where the rock gods go when they grow up without selling out , this is the place, this is the music, this is the higher ground...by the way I loved this album! :)
