Amazing Story,

This review is from: A Mile in His Shoes (DVD)
A Mile In His Shoes is an interesting story how a fellow with Autism can pitch well, and ,therefore, the other pitcher on the team becomes jealous and tries to get rid of the fellow with Asperger's syndrome. Sad, but, fortunately, the story ends well.

Fantastic Film from a Fantastic Book,
By Joe Mancino "Joe" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Mile in His Shoes (DVD)
"The Legend of Mickey Tussler" by talented author Frank Nappi was the quintessential book for a film adaptation. Nappi's vivid, colorful descriptions, multi-dimensional characters, and layered subplot, deserved to be noticed for this distinct honor. Screenwriter Jason Koornick had plenty of rich material to work with when adapting Nappi's astounding book for the film "A Mile in His Shoes" starring Dean Cain and Luke Shroder. Koornick commendably does justice to "Tussler". While a film could never capture every nuance nestled intricately into the pages of a well-written book, kudos to Koornick for managing to bring to life many of the elements that make Nappi's book so worthwhile. While the film is not completely faithful to the book, Koornick manages to successfully maintain many of the overarching themes Nappi purports and allows "the game" to serve as the vehicle through which these messages are established; that anything worth accomplishing requires hard work and determination, the power of teamwork, and that challenges can be overcome. The baseball scenes so precisely written by Nappi spring to life in the film adding an enjoyable visual dimension for fans of the sport. The film's stars must have read the book, because they honor Nappi's intricate characters with aplomb. Dean Cain does an excellent job capturing the essence of Murphy. He convincingly portrays Murphy's kind heart and affable demeanor. Cain makes it easy to root for Murphy and his team in the film. Luke Shroder was impressive in the role of Mickey. His portrayal of a young boy with Asperger's syndrome is heartfelt and his ability to convey the pressures of an underdog trying to beat insurmountable odds is believable. The tandem of Cain and Shroder make this movie a `feel-good" must see. The movie "A Mile in His Shoes" is a wonderful tribute to Nappi's inspiring book. Check out the book and the movie - the combination is an experience that is well worth your time. I promise you won't be disappointed. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful

Warning To Christians,

This review is from: A Mile in His Shoes (DVD)
As a Christian father with 6 childeren, I am constantly searching for edifying media to fill their minds and their extra time. I have been very happy with several of the new and older faith baised films that are on the market. In the back of my mind, I just new that this movement would be hijacked at some point by those trying to make a fast buck. I purchased this movie after reading several reviews and watching the preview. The basis of the story is very good and very inspiring. They have added several things to the story that would make it appear to be a faith based movie, such as prayers and a bible. In my honest opinion it really doesn't have the heart of a Christian author or director behind the scenes and in my opinion missed the mark for what I am looking for. WARNING: At one point in the movie they have two former ballplayers, now turned coaches after a collision in an former game arguing. In the course of this disscusssion one of the coaches says what clearly sounds like a swear word and viewers get the point. There is also a very, very, very sexually suggestive party scene in the movie that will leave you with a very sleazy feeling. As one former review stated the scene where Mickey gets hit is very disturbing to younger viewers and after seeing the scene for my self I did not let my younger children watch the movie. Although all the above scenes are most likely true to life, I'm paying for a dream world I and I want to leave feeling good about what I watched. I truly feel that this is a good movie as far as the world goes, but it misses the the mark for Christians! 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful

Perfect for your family's next movie night!,

When I first heard about this movie, I couldn't wait to watch it for family night. I wasn't disappointed."A Mile in His Shoes" stars Dean Cain as a minor league baseball coach named nicknamed "Murph." Murph enjoys his job, but can't quite shake the losing streak his team has been experiencing lately. When Murph goes in search of a possible recruit, he accidentally runs his car off the road and becomes stranded on a country highway. A young man named Mickey offers him the use of his family's phone. Murph takes Mickey up on his offer, and that's when Murph discovers something amazing - Mickey's pitching arm could be just the thing needed to end Murph's team's losing streak. There's only one problem - Mickey has Asperger's Syndrome (a form of Autism), and as such, his parents (especially his dad) are very protective of him. Can Murph convince Mickey's parents to allow their son the chance of a lifetime? And if Mickey's parents do agree, how will Mickey fit in with the rest of the team? How will he adapt to life away from his family's farm - the only life he's ever known? This movie has wonderful discussion points including the topics of faith, loyalty, friendship, never giving up, envy, mistreatment of others because they are different, grief, worry, and telling the truth. A word of caution to those with young children: there is a brief scene at a party where Mickey is injured that will scare younger viewers. Beautiful scenery, an inspiring story line based on a true story, and a well-rounded family movie make this a must-see. I highly recommend adding it to your list for your family's next movie night! I have added this movie to my list of mom-approved movies on my wordpress blog. Reviewed by Penny Zeller, Author of "McKenzie." |
