Sheryl Crow: 100 Miles From Memphis,

This review is from: 100 Miles From Memphis (Audio CD)
For me this is one of my least favorite Sheryl Crow CD's. I only have a few select tracks from this CD put onto my MP3 player which most of the time I have almost every song from her CD's on my playlists. Of the songs I did put on my playlist that I actually liked I've shown them below:1. "Stop": This song is the best track on the CD to me. It figures as it's the track that she actually wrote herself and she is such a gifted songwriter. This is a love song of unrequited love between 2 people and the hopes that it remain. I loved the portions of the song where she used her higher falsetto voice. I often wonder if this isn't a song that she wrote for someone she loved alot Eric Clapton. Only she would be able to deny or confirm that but whomever it was written for it's such a beautiful piece of writing. 2. "Sideways": Sheryl does a very good job on this song which is actually a Citizen Cope song that I think is one of the best written songs both lyrically & musically in many years. I prefer Citizen Copes version (although I have both on my MP3 player); he does background vocals on this version with Sheryl. But for those of you who would like to hear a better version purchase the CD "The Clarence Greenwood Project" by Citizen Cope as that is the best interpretation. Also that whole CD is one of the best CD's I have in my collection but I'll critique that CD separately. 3. "Roses & Moonlight": This is a jazzy bluesy song and Sheryl has a gift I think for being able to do justice to jazz songs. I think she should do them more often with a hit of blues she sounds so great! This type of song as most of the others in the CD are a departure from her usual style of music. The musicians that accompany her on this song vocally are again a nice combination. 4."Sign Your Name": This is a really great lightly funky version of the song but not as much as the original which is why I like it. She gave this song a current relevance for today. It feels like a song you would have (and did) hear back in the 1960's and beyond as it's been done by many other artists over time. However I have to admit since the original (and including the original) this version is my favorite of the song. These are the only tracks that I liked on this CD. I thought it was nice that she did a touching tribute to Michael Jackson on this CD of a song they did together when she was his background singer when she first started out; although I don't have it on my MP3 player. In fairness to Sheryl I can appreciate that all artists do like to switch it up & do something different from the norm that they are known for & I think this CD is unique in that sense. I'm sure alot of you might like it depending on your own personal style preference genre wise but for me I prefer her other works more. Check it out though...or at least check out the tracks I've suggested to see if your tastes might be inline with mine. Cheers All!

100 Miles From Memphis by Sheryl Crowi like it, vulnerable and change in format from her earlier albums. a little more soul to this album, good arrangements. like how she used a bigger band, like the horns and piano. she still has that one groove song, 100 miles from memphis, but i have to say i don't enjoy the Jackson cover. over all a good album drifting from pop to soul to rock. i would recommend this one.

Cheryl Crow is Back!,

This review is from: 100 Miles From Memphis (Audio CD)
First off, WOW! Amazing amazing. Cheryl Crow is back and better than ever.Probably one of her best CD's. Her last big hit was "Soak up the Sun" from her C'mon, C'mon CD which was a great CD. Not to mention her two single releases from her Greatest Hits package "The First Cut is The Deepest" and the amazing Kid Rock duet "Picture". Cheryl Crow's last two releases,"Wildflower" and "Detours" did not hold up to her classic CD's which has made her a Grammy award winning artist. Mind you the last two mentioned CD's did have there moments, but I lost interest after a few plays. Now about "100 Miles From Memphis", I have not lost interest. I have a feeling this will become a classic CD I will play over and over again for years to come. Every song is worthy of playing on the radio and a top 10 hit. My personal favorites are; the remake of 80's Terence Trent D'arby's "Sign Your Name", with Justin Timberlake doing backup. Tracks "Summer Day", "Long Road Home", "Say What You Want", Stop (I love this track), "SideWays", And her Incredible tribute to Michale Jackson " I Want You Back". Honestly 100% amazing CD. If you are just a casual fan or a new fan or a die hard fan as I am, you need to buy this CD. Not since "The Globe sessions" has She recorded a solid CD...actually I love all of her CD's buy them all.!
