Very Nice One Handed Opening Knife Oct. 3 2011
By Chad A. Fackler - Published on Amazon.com

I got this knife to be my EDC knife. I wanted the MAGIC opening system and the safety lock features that Smith and Wesson have. I also wanted the non painted finish on the blade. Very happy with it so far, have been using it for about a month now. I did have to modify the pocket clip a little (it comes very tight) and loosen the blade up a touch to speed its opening. Nice edge from the factory. Very satisfied. Would recommend.

Smith & Wesson Did it Again. Feb. 9 2012

Alright, I personally hate reviews that begin with, "I bought this 3 days ago and...." I know you do too. I've had this Knife for TWO YEARS. I must say without a doubt, it is truly well constructed. The blade is about 2.5 inches, so it is a bit small if want something big and spectacular to show off to your friends, but honestly, what will you be doing that requires a five inch pocket knife? Although it may lack in size to some *ahem*(Urban tough Guys), it makes up for it in quality, style, and functionality. it is made of 4304 Stainless Steel; which means it stays very sharp for a very long time. As for style, the SWMP1 is gorgeous. It has a rubberized handle grip which is obviously high quality and will not come off. The functionality on this knife is astounding. With the scoop-back design, sturdy handle and most of all the MAGIC assist blade opener, it tops any knife I have yet to see in this category. At the price of twenty five or thirty dollars, it is a great buy. I loved mine so much I bought a second one for my 15 year old son's birthday. He loved it so much he named it Phoebe. Anyway, this makes a perfect gift is my point. Even after two years of having this it only looks a month old. Incredible durability. As for safety features on this knife, it has a slide lock on the side that clicks firmly in place yet still easy to open with a man's thumb. it may seem a bit excessive to drop $30 on a knife, however, you will never regret it. All in all, this knife has great durability, style, and functionality. It'd bring a smile to my face if you let me know if you purchase one, because trust me, it will bring a smile to yours.

Great Knife Oct. 27 2010

I bought this knife about a week ago and it came 2 days early. It has a very strong swing action, is very smooth, and has a good weight to it. It is one of the best knives I have ever owned and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good, heavy knife. And with a name like Smith & Wesson backing it, you know it is of high quality and will last a lifetime. I will definitely buy another one, again a great knife.

joy short lived Jan. 17 2012

I loved this knife right up to the point that the opening mechanism on the back broke. It was made out of plastic and not durable at all.

Great knife but one significat flaw... Jan. 13 2012
By Scott R. Auchterlonie - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this knife because of the S&W branding only to find out that it isn't made by Smith and Wesson at all, but from Taylor Brands, who apparently make good knifes but I still felt it was a little deceiving. The knife came sharp but had too fine of a edge on it, I quickly folded it over and had to put a slightly less find edge on it so it could handle aggressive daily use. After having the knife only a couple weeks I noticed that the "Magic" assist deploy lever had broken off internally. This is a design flaw in my opinion, the entire assisted deploy mechanism relies upon a very thin piece of metal which apparently can break off very easily with normal usage. Now for the good news...I still carry this knife because I can still deploy the knife with spring assistance using the thumb stud. Overall the knife is constructed very well, the 4034 steel blade is extremely durable and keeps its edge well with minimal maintenance. I can't recommend this particular knife design since it broke after a couple weeks of ownership, but I have already ordered the 2nd generation S&W knife that is comparable to this one and fully anticipate better performance. These knifes are only about $30-40 which seems to me like a good deal overall. I cant wait to review the 2nd generation!
