While these don't come cheap, this is easily one of my favourite and most used tools around the house. My main use is actually tree pruning. I live in a very wooded and old area of Toronto and as such, every year, there is always a lot of pruning to be done. Use a proper pruning blade and a full battery and you make quick work of this without worrying about wires or breaking your arms off on large branches. Once the branches are off the tree, you still have to cut them up into manageable pieces to be picked up by the city, again, I would not consider doing this with a hand saw ever again.

Battery life is good, but not great, for large jobs you will still need to swap or charge the battery but for heavy duty tasks like this I never did expect the battery to go all afternoon long.

I have used the Milwaukee 18V Sawzall for years and it just keeps going and going no matter how much I abuse it.

Awesome sawzall! April 1 2009
By Martinator - Published on
This saw is awesome! It seems to have more power than a regular 18V, but the best thing is the lithium ion battery with the "fuel gauge" right on the battery that lets you know how much charge is left in the battery. This M18 battery will go and go and go full blast until it loses all charge and then it stops. Probably wouldn't hurt to have a spare battery if you'll be using it for a big job and don't want to have to wait the 30-50 minutes it might take to recharge the battery. I used it to cut a bunch of branches for about 2 hours and I still had juice left in the battery. This saw had more than enough power for what I use it for (small trees, branches, 2x4s with and without nails, wood fence demo, etc.), and the Milwaukee name gives me a feeling of quality. I highly recommend this saw not just because it's a workhorse, it also looks cool!

Firewood Cutting Jan. 31 2012

I bought this saw to cut up downed pine on my property for my fireplace. With this saw I don't need to get out the chainsaw except for log cutting. Using this saw with its reciprocating blade and ultra fast blade lock is much easier and safer than using a chainsaw. And I don't miss the gas fumes & noise of my chainsaw. The 45 minutes or so of cutting time on one battery charge makes for forced breaks. Not such a bad thing. Great saw from Milwaukee, who after all was the first to bring a reciprocating saw to the market.
campfire wood Sept. 3 2011

Hand sawing firewood while tent camping at 8000 feet is tiresome. This Milwaukee Sawzall is the perfect tool for cutting 4 to 5 inch logs. I can cut down dry wood continuously for about 15 minutes, then the battery needs charging with the Milwaukee 12v charger .. that takes about 40 minutes. I cut 4 to 5 logs of down-wood about 4 feet long, take them back to the campsite and then cut those into 8 or 10 inch fire logs. The battery charges on the way back or overnight, and the drain on my F-150 truck battery seems insignificant. I use a pruning blade that seemed to wear down just a bit after two weeks use. A very fine product.
Reliable tool Feb. 28 2012

Grabbed one of these the other day at the hardware store & I have to say I like this kit alot. The tool itself has a nice feel to it, doesn't wear out quickly & is ready to use pretty much immediately. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reliable tool to fill out their bench. Haven't really had a chance to put it through the paces yet, but I'll update this just as soon as she gets a few more miles on her.
