This angle grinder is a backup for my old milwaukee angle grinder that I have had for 15 plus years without a problem, but just in case I wanted a backup. I do like the lever switch on both of these grinders rather than the slide switches that a lot of other makes have. The price is why I purchased this from

6148-30 Has issues Aug. 8 2011
By waterndirt - Published on
We've used the previous 6148-6 for the last 7 years on our fleet trucks. We've owned well over 100 units and were considered indestructible in our minds. After Milwaukee revised the unit and re-launched as the 6148-30 its been nothing but trouble, the gears in the head fail as well as the locking pin to change blades. I've been told by a Milwaukee rep that its a known problem and they will soon release a replacement. In the mean time I have 15 paper weights on our shop bench.

This is my first angle grinder, so I'm by no means an expert. I read as many reviews as possible then went out to retail stores to see various grinders in person. I was immediately turned off by most of the Chinese imports and even the name brands such as Dewalt and Makita seemed fine but left something to be desired. I did not look at the upper (high priced) models.

I was impressed right away with the quality construction of the Milwaukee 6148-30. The guard adjusts easily with a heavy duty lever instead of a screw as in most models I looked at. I can't comment on some of the technical features such as "multi port exhaust" but the grinder never overheated on me and had plenty of power to grind and polish my 316 stainless steel project.

One of the main requirements I had was that the grinder had to be comfortable to work with. I loved the paddle switch on the Milwaukee 6148-30, the balance was good and the rubber handle was very comfortable and had three mounting positions.

I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Excellent Tool July 23 2011

After looking at about 10 to 15 angle grinders in the store (Bosch, Ryobi, DeWalt, Makita, Hilti, etc.) this one seemed to have the best fit, finish, and performance/cost. So I bought it with a cut-off disk and a face shield ( should get one of those...less than $20 to save yourself from a serious disfiguring injury). I was rewarded with a solid performer. It easily cut through some thick steal tabs on an old filing cabinet that I'm using to store tools in. I love this thing!

BTW, some are commenting that it's not made in China. It the fine print. I read the fine print on all of the angle grinders in the store, they are all made in China. I suppose you have to go to a high-end industrial angle grinder (Metabo?) to avoid the Made in China tag. Anyhow, grinders are not high tech. They are low tech. Fortunately, it appears that the Milwaukee company is making it's Chinese manufacturer produce a solid product.

Great Grinder June 24 2011

Another well built tool from Milwaukee. I've had this grinder about six months and I'm a well satisfied customer. It is well built and solid. I tried to go cheap and I just can't bring myself to buy cheap tools - I always wind up regretting it. Other guys can do it and continue to replace those tools without a second thought. I just can't and will continue to buy Milwaukee tools. The first project I used it on worked perfectly - shaving some bricks down for a custom fit on a repair. If your looking for a small grinder - this is the one.
