Product Description

Album Description

Deluxe CD/DVD edition including a bonus DVD that contains additional material over the standard DVD release. 2009 live release from the acclaimed singer/songwriter. Having wowed and dazzled audiences on his acclaimed and celebrated 2007 Release The Stars tour, Rufus Wainwright releases his eagerly anticipated live set Milwaukee at Last!!!. Release The Stars is the focal point of the live set with other highlights coming from Rufus' Want One record, a scintillating performance of Noel Coward's `If Love Were All' from his `Rufus Does Judy' show, plus a spine tingling a cappella version of celtic song `Macushla.' The DVD was shot by the legendary documentary film maker Albert Maysles who with his brother David formed a team whose "Direct cinema" works include Salesmen, Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens. Their 1964 film on The Beatles forms the backbone of the DVD, The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT an audio DVD!, Oct 2 2009

First of all, I would like to clear up the confusion regarding Amazon's listing for this product that notes that the DVD is audio-only. [i.e. (Monster Music Deluxe CD + Audio DVD)] This is not the case. It is a normal DVD with the full video of the concert. (Plus extras!) There are no DVD-audio files on the DVD.

Secondly, this is an awesome concert! Lots of behind the scenes footage is interspersed throughout the whole show. It's a definite must-have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sublime, Essential Live Record From Rufus Wainwright, Sep 27 2009
By 221b BakerSt - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Milwaukee at Last (Audio CD)
If you're already a Rufus Wainwright fan, let me just save you some time and tell you this: Go out and get this now. It's a sublime and essential live record with Wainwright in top form. The set list featured here showcases songs from his last two studio albums, Want Two and Release The Stars, for the most part, and the live versions frequently eclipse the studio ones. (There's also a DVD version of this live set that features more songs.) If you happen not to be a Wainwright fan, then this is a good place to start if you are wondering what the hubbub about him is, as this is an excellent, exceptionally entertaining introduction to his unique brand of jazz, Big Band and Broadway influenced pop music, often experimental in nature, and featuring a heavy dose of old fashioned showmanship, the latter on full display on Milwaukee At Last!!! Wainwright also has a remarkable voice, known to some audiences owing to his superlative cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah." I'm not often a fan of live records, but this is Wainwright's second great live recording in a row, following his recreation of Judy Garland's famed 1961 Carnegie Hall concert, and it's definitely recommended. Standout cuts: "Going To A Town," "Rules And Regulations," "Not Ready To Love/Slideshow" and "Gay Messiah."

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Better Than I Remembered!, Dec 16 2009
By Angela Gustafson "Angie G." - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Milwaukee at Last (CD/DVD) (Audio CD)
I think this combo deluxe pack is amazing!
I immediately popped in his live part of the CD and listened to it over and over and then I watched the concert on his DVD, and boy is it better than I remember!

I went to this concert and was anxiously awaiting this set to be released, and even watching this concert again I honestly felt like I was back at it. Rufus is a great live performer and I would recommend anyone to go see him live. If you want to test run the atmosphere of his concerts, I recommend you buy this set and watch him. He is a truly great musician.

I hope that those who order this item are very satisfied with it. If I could have checked 6 stars, I definitely would have. This is a nice little gem to add to my collection.
