Minding Frankie,
By
This review is from: Minding Frankie (Perfect Paperback)
Maeve Binchy is virtually always easy to read and very enjoyable. Her characters are most often very true to life and this book was no exception. One of her strongest points is her ability to juxtapose characters from previous novels into the current setting and this time she may have done that the best of all. Combining single parenthood, alcoholism and a supportive community makes for a fine tale.

New characters and many old favourites!,

I had a slow time getting into this latest Maeve Binchy offering, but once I got involved have quite enjoyed it. Her recent books have lacked the charm of Tara Road, Cooper Beech, Evening Class etc, but this is quite fun to read. For any long time Binchy fan it is fun to read about what has happened to many of our old favourites like "Signora" and Aidan, Muttie and Lizzie, the twins, Frank and Clara etc. However it is harder to get involved with her new characters like Noel, Lisa and Moira. I think a collection of short stories bringing us updates on our old favourite characters would be a good offing next!

Simple,

This review is from: Minding Frankie (Perfect Paperback)
This is book has simple characters with not much depth. There are ongoing issues with each character but nothing is really explored at all. The book has a real soap-opera feel and makes me think of an innocent "Coronation Street". You definately get the impression that the author has no real life experiance with the issues she has presented. It is quick and mindless reading and good if you just want a break.
