Harsh, cold and oddly beautiful,
This review is from: Mirror (Audio CD)
The acoustic murmurings and gentle melodies that make up half the album aside, 'Mirror' does not strike these poor ears as a very friendly album. It is cold, harsh, barely human. Listening to it is like glimpsing, from the distance, something alien and threatening, that is just about to turn and take notice of you and your naive little world that is soon to be forever crushed. The sound is a wash of psychedelic noise, leavened with the aforementioned acoustic murmurings, whispered vocals (and certainly, the vocals are not especially tuneful, but they more than work in the context they're placed), and brutal brutal beats. I like listening to this, but I'd be the first to acknowledge that it's not for everyone. As I said, it's a barely human album, and will probably leave you feeling rather lonely and empty when it's over. That aside, there are moments of great, icy beauty here, that deserve a listen.

Not so much a whole album as it is two EPs. The first half is acoustic/psychedelic, while the other half is more dancey/shoegaze type stuff. (with the two middle tracks tying the two halves together.) Maybe not their best work, but it's worth the price for Wintersong alone...

This isn't for the faint of heart. If you like those simple 1-2-3 alterna-bands, don't look here. Beautiful, noisy, shimmering layers of guitar (and two beautiful not-so-noisy short tracks) that can make my night anytime. This is even better than FSA's last one. Viva la wall of sound!
