Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Contemporary critics of Marillion labelled them as clones of Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, based largely upon their extended songs, a prominent and Mellotron-influenced keyboard sound, distinctive other-worldly album artwork and the deeply fantastic and/or romantic lyrics of their Scottish frontman Fish. Initially a cult band appealing mainly to lovers of progressive rock, with the somewhat softer sound of Misplaced Childhood they came to the attention a much wider audience after the success of the single Kayleigh. With two continuous "suites" of music, one covering either side of the original LP, this album actually bears a much closer relation to The Wall-era Pink Floyd; like it, the music, although tuneful and expertly played, serves mainly as an emotional framework for a vehemently personal set of lyrics. Sometimes, as on the opening "Pseudo Silk Kimono", the lyrics are pretentious and empty; elsewhere, as on "Blind Curve", they are searching and punchy. Fish refined his vision to a peak on Marillion's next album Clutching At Straws, an often masterful examination of self-deception and self-loathing, before leaving the band for a solo career. --James Swift

Album Description

Misplaced Childhood is seen by many as the definitive Marillion album, and it is hard to argue. The music is stylistically typical of their first three albums and has far fewer flat spots than Fugazi. It also contains that most unproglike of beasts, a hit single. The infectious "Kayleigh" reached number 2 on the British charts. EMI. 2005.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock at its best, Oct 28 1999
By
This review is from: Misplaced Childhood (Audio CD)
As a 31 year old rock fanatic I feel I should pay homage to the best album I have ever heard. This takes conceptual depth, great melodies, and a wide range of song types and molds them into an unbelievable package. It is an album which everyone that I know who has had the chance to listen to it has really grabbed onto it. I enjoy Marillion with Steve Hogarth on vocals very much and I think they remain a great band, but this album was a special thing. Seeing Steve do "Heart of Lothian" in concert several years back remains in my memory as a fantastic performance, only enhancing this material.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my favorite album of all time, Sep 23 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Misplaced Childhood (Audio CD)
I recorded the orginal release of this album about 14 years ago. I loved it then and I still love it now. This is the only cassette tape that I still listen to. I have bought 300 CD's since I recorded it 14 years ago, but I still listen to this album more than any other album. I recently ordered this album on CD so I'll never have to worry about my tape getting eaten up. I have been looking for this album on CD for years but now that I'm online I'll finally get it. "Misplaced Childhood" is a great album. You can listen to it when you're happy, sad, or just pissed off and I'll guarentee you that you will be in a better mood after you listen to it.

"MISPACED CHILDHOOD" is the best album ever made.
