Amos Lee has announced the January 25, 2011 release of Mission Bell, his fourth album for EMI's Blue Note Records, and his richest and most fully formed album to date. Mission Bell, which was produced by Joey Burns of the acclaimed band Calexico, displays both range and cohesion, an array of emotions unified by Lee's eclectic taste and distinctive vocals. With a remarkable set of guests - including Lucinda Williams, Willie Nelson, Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), Priscilla Ahn, Pieta Brown, and James Gadson - and the musical backing of Calexico, the album marks the arrival of Amos Lee as a mature artist who continues to explore his musical and thematic interests.
"There's a real searching element to a lot of these songs," says Lee, who has evolved into one of the most important and prolific songwriters of our time, a point that's driven home by the 12 new originals on Mission Bell, and the presence of legends such as Williams and Nelson, who were eager to interpret Lee's songs.
The most obvious change on Mission Bell is the album's intimate yet expansive sound, which Lee credits to Joey Burns and John Convertino of Calexico. After a chance meeting, the idea came up for Lee to go out to the band's Wavelab studio in Tucson and try some recording. "The musicality that those guys bring is just amazing," Lee says. "It was especially nice to work with John and get a very different texture rhythmically. They're great at creating atmosphere - sonically, they brought a beautiful dimension into a lot of the songs, and helped them to expand and breathe more."

I had never heard of this artist before but was intrigued by all the positive reviews so I took a chance and I'm soooo glad I did! I absolutely love this CD, every single selection is great. I play it constantly in my car and am now such a fan I've ordered another of his which I haven't received yet. If this one is even half as good I'll be happy. Can't understand why I've never heard of him, must be because I live in Canada. Love the way you post all these reviews, I never would have discovered him without Amazon's help. Thank you, Thank you !!

This is such a fabulous CD. You can't go wrong buying ANY of his CD's as they are all of the highest quality in his genre. If you like Contemporary County or Blues/Country genre/s then this CD wins hands down. The tone & quality to his voice I think has even improved which is a scary thought as his voice is perfection always. However what I loved about this CD is it had more of a bluesy/gospel/country vibe to it. The writing is very good. The collaboration with Willie Nelson was fabulous. The most outstanding songs (even though they are all good) are "Jesus" & "Violin". I guarantee you that you will have both these 2 songs on your playlist/MP3 FOREVER. Also I want to make a big nod to the background singer on this CD in particular on the song "Jesus"; I hope Amos will continue to collaborate with this vocalist as both their voices sounded awesome together! The only song I didn't like was the song he did with Lucinda Williams.....other than that every song is awesome. He's also wonderful to see live if any of you get the chance! Also a nod to the technical production of this CD....his voice sounds like he & the musicians are in the next room to you! Great job!

This is one of the most talented artist I have had the pleasure to experience. I first heard him sing on the Ellen show and couldn't wait to purchase his CD. He is an incredible singer/ songwriter and everyone of his songs are sheer genius. Highly recommend this artist.
