It is a large, thorough dictionary and given its size, it should be aimed at serious linguists but it doesn't quite fit the bill.
Many of the entries from Portuguese to English are more like explanations and those that do provide one-word translations are quite generic. It's like if a Portuguese-speaker asks me the meaning of an English word, I don't know the exact translation in Portuguese, so I offer a short explanatory sentence or a more generic but similar word.
With this in mind, I find it useful for providing insight for uncommon words. I then have to do my own mental gymnastics or legwork on the internet to get a more precise translation.
It's been 10 years since I started learning Portuguese and still we are sorely lacking a top-quality Portuguese-English dictionary in the style of the Oxford Spanish Dictionary, for example, which has half a million translations.
