With a run approaching forty years, Modesty Blaise embodies the archetype of the modern spy babe. She's beautiful, brilliant, death on wheels with any weapon or none, the perfect lady, and the perfect soldier. She comes with some extras, too, like a vast but somewhat hazy bankroll, allowing her freedom to do what she wants and when. Then there's the uber-able sidekick, Willie, a Nordic giant not to be dismissed because of the diminutive name, and some friendly faces in high echelons of government security agencies. James Bond predates her by very few years but doesn't have nearly the staying power, despite sporadic accretions to his canon.This book captures a few story lines, strips numbered 4648 to 4932A - printing schedules and catch-up strips for new subscribers explain the irregular numbering. In addition to the 'Green Cobra' story, you'll also find 'Eve and Adam' and 'Brethren of Blaise.' The first story involves elaborate double-crosses; the second starts when some monied wacko decides that the world is ending, so Modesty and Willie are to recreate the population on their own; the third involves a hokey coincidence of names and a treasure hunt with some interesting side-trails. It's all just good fun, though, in a chivalrous spy-babe comic strip. Sneak a flashlight under the blankets and enjoy!
