Sunny still delivers,
This review is from: Mona Lisa Eclipsing (Paperback)
This fifth book in the series (obvious I guess since it has "E" as part of the title) still delivers. It would be best if you have read the earlier novels but there is enough background info included so you wouldn't be totally lost if this was your first dip into the Monere world. Sunny manages to include sexy scenes while still telling a story of interest. Ending was, to be honest, a bit of a surprise. Will be interesting to see what the sixth book will be about......

Mona Lisa Eclipsing by SunnyParanormal Romance -April 5th, 2011 4 stars Mona Lisa Eclipsing, like all of Sunny's books are a non-stop thrill ride. This story is full of dark, lush fantasy and huge changes for the heroine. As a child of the Moon (Monere), Mona Lisa has finally begun to adjust to her life as one of the rare Monere Queens. She shoulders a great responsibility to the other Monere that depend upon her. Partially human, she never realized her Monere heritage until six months ago. She is coming to grips with special abilities and realizing her full power as a Monere. Recently, she rejected her lover Dante. Dante is a powerful warrior who betrayed Mona Lisa in a past life. But Mona Lisa has decided to forgive him and wants him back. She and some of her elite men discover Dante is in Cozumel and they plan to retrieve him. But their mission goes wrong and Mona Lisa is injured and captured! When she wakes up she has no memory of her past and is easily duped into believing the charismatic and attractive stranger named Roberto. Roberto is actually a drug lord and is unaware of his Monere heritage. (As a Monere they are not physically attracted to humans.) Mona Lisa is the only female Monere he has ever met and is captivated by his attraction to her. As a result, he is determined to keep her. Unfortunately, her memory loss leads her to believe his lies and also results in hurting the other men in her past who love her. Will Mona Lisa regain her memory? Will she and her other lovers be able to reconcile? This book was an exhilarating read. I love this author's vivid imagination as she seamlessly change scenery and adds plot twists that keep it in high gear. However, because I love the world she has created so much I was torn when she introduced human elements into it. Although I do find the human plot twist adds tension I find the fantasy aspects the most involving. As a result, this is not my favorite in the series. This book also has some very sexual scenes (including a ménage) so those who do not like racy books, be warned! I found this novel very interesting because Mona Lisa finds herself in unique circumstances that make the book actually feel like three shorter stories strung together. Mona Lisa is admirable and likeable. She is smart and although powerful does not let it go to her head or use her power needlessly. I was also thrilled that Mona Lisa's first love Gryphon returns in a small section of this story, it only makes me hope that he will return for a larger part in future books. Mona Lisa Eclipsing is a fantastic addition to the series. I only wonder where the author will lead us next?! Sensual, alluring and full of surprises this is a book that will keep fans captivated. Feels like the last book to me,

I agree with the reviewers that say this book is not as good as the others in plot or character development. In fact I think that the only reason for this book was to end the series. Again, I agree with another reviewer that it was not ended very well. I wish I would have gotten it from the library. Sunny should have just given us a free ebook novella of the last part of this book.

Worth the wait (spoilers),

After a 2-year wait for the next book in the series (during which I almost died from anxiety and despair from thinking maybe Sunny had given up on Mona Lisa and intended on continuing only with Lucinda's books), Mona Lisa Eclipsing came to me like a blow in the head.I was happy and apprehensive to know that Dante would return... then I started reading. At the beggining the book made me writhe with impatience over the difficulty of finding Dante and then having to go through Mona Lisa's (very painful) memory loss. We were introduced to new characters, such as jaguar-shifter/Mixed Blood/drug dealer, Roberto, and other new enemies, such as the wild Monère controlled by Mona Sierra. The sex scenes were very few, if compared to the previous books, proving that Sunny tried her best to make up for lost time with real innovations in the story. And that she did. Mona Lisa had the incentive of the Mother Queen to spread out the knowledge of the Monère race to humans, after a televised accident with a rogue male warrior. With the help of press and the apparent "understanding" of the autorities, she accomplished it. Now we can only patiently wait for the next volumes to see the actual response of the other Queens, Mixed Bloods and Rogues around the world, (which promises to be so very interesting, not to mention challenging), and hope that our brilliant and beloved author Sunny doesn't make us suffer so much (again) while we do so. |
