Product Description

Review

"Boiger's pastel paintings play up the contrast between the princesses' charmed existence and Lala's comfy borrow, and [MacHale] . . . delivers his message about handling mean girls with sincerity."—Publishers Weekly

"Lala's fluffy green hair, eager grin accented by two delicate fangs, and irrepressible spirit make her a creature kids will root for, even before she uses her monstery skills to save the princesses from a scary beast."—Booklist

Product Description

Lala dwells in a cave that lies deep below the ground, worlds away from the castle where three beautiful princesses live. She is the best krinkle-nut digger by far, but she longs for more: the dresses, the parties, the royal life. Up, up, up Lala climbs and sneaks into the castle. She tries on the princesses’ gowns…and is caught. But the princesses dress Lala up and let her attend a ball. She stumbles. She bumbles. She is laughed at. Can Lala find it in her heart to forgive the girls who tricked her? Will Lala find out what it means to be a real princess?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, May 6 2011
By ilanao - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Monster Princess: Illustrated by Alexandra Boiger (Hardcover)
I am an author/illustrator as well as a nanny. From all points of view this book is wonderful and I tell everyone I meet about it. The story is well written with a great message for girls who are swept up with the "Disney Princess" mentality. It is also written in rhyme and has a great flow. It is not too long so little kids (ages 3 and up) are able to maintain their attention, and do so willingly. Also, as the parent or care giver, it is fast paced and short enough that you won't get sick of reading it out loud or dread reading it at bead time. The illustrations add to the story, they are beautifully rendered in watercolor. Both children and adults alike will enjoy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, Jan 15 2011

What a great story! It's inventive and original -- yet follows a "Traditional" meaning. My daughter absolutely loves to read this book before bed. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a book to read and re-read!, Aug 21 2011

The monster princess is a heroine my daughter can learn from. She is so cute! I enjoyed the theme of the book, the way it is written (poetic form), and the beautiful illustrations. We checked it out at our local library and now I'm ordering it. This will be a favorite bedtime story for years to come!
