Book Description
These spectacular, complex, mixed-media paintings fuse such disparate sources as medieval European religious painting and 1960s pop art to create haunting and sometimes bizarre scenes that alternately mock and celebrate various aspects of human behavior.
From the Publisher
James Barsness is an engmatic and engaging artist, who likes to draw the viewer into his labyrinthine, heavily worked canvases via extraordinary cartoonish details which visualize contemporary existence as Bosch like allegories, accompanied by Bosch like tortures and phantasies.
From the Author
I'm interested in archetypal situations that are narratives, mythology and that type of thing. Everyone has fundamentally the same experiences, but in different ways. Everyone's an individual, but we all have to learn to walk and talk and face whaterver we're fearful of. Those are the kind of stories I really like and look for.
