MONTEGA'S MISTRESS - Originally published in 1986
Published 2012 as Book One of MEN OF INTRIGUE: A TRILOGY

Helen Demarest's peaceful, orderly existence was shattered forever the night Matteo Montega burst into her life. Armed and wounded, Montega was a man on the run with a secret mission to complete. At first frightened, then fascinated, Helen had chosen to help her midnight intruder and thus was drawn into the web of danger and intrigue that surrounded him.

From the Florida beach where they first met to his Central American homeland, Montega showed Helen a new world filled with passion, risk and the commitment to dare everything for a goal she came to share. But when the adventure was over and he had his victory–would she have won or lost?

5.0 out of 5 stars Clicque and Done Before July 16 2012

Don't let my title mislead you. While this story has been done before and it was a clicque plot, it was the best done of any I have read.

It was fast paced and Helen was not your typical rich girl with the overblown wonderful and rich do gooder family. SHe was down to earth and was able to fit in to any situation.

I loved the Story. Hero is injured, heroine nurses, falls in love and is will to jump into fire to help him out. All the characters were very well developed and the entire story has a really satisfying ending for the romantic action fiction reader.

Would highly recommend this one. You'll love it, if you love action, a romaantic hero and wonderful heroine and a warm loving family dynamic ending.

2.0 out of 5 stars Implausible but sweet romance July 7 2013

Montega's Mistress
This was a easy read. If I took the book seriously, I would have to say that the heroine was the most immature, naive, twenty five year old college educated woman I have ever read about. The fact that she didn't have a lot of friends and shunned her family was no excuse for her complete lack of common sense and poor decision making. She herself said that she was acting like a five year old.

But if I just accept this book as a light read, then I have to say it was an implausible but sweet romance with somewhat hot sex.

I wasn't expecting much to be honest but I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was pulled into the story. Plenty of romance, suspense and twists to keep you reading. I definitely recommend it. I will be reading the next book for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Romance Novel May 3 2012
By Shona - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very eloquent book, I am so glad I ran across it. I purchased it free through Amazon kindle, and have to say, I would have been happy to have paid full price for it.
The main characters, Helen and Matteo are well developed and likable. I especially enjoyed Helen as she is an heiress who is a sort of the black sheep in a snooty wealthy family. She is down to earth, intelligent, a bit lonely, and a strong, dependable, independent character. She saves *him* in the story. He is a swarthy, Latin man who I appreciated his loyalty to his country, which he is fighting for, and loyalty to Helen as well.
The author has a wonderful way with words, at times poetic, and the descriptions were delightful.
It was wonderfully romantic as in the emphasis felt like it was on their developing fondness and love for each other rather than the love scenes. There are sex/love scenes, but again, they are not emphasized, and even just alluded to rather than in detail. I appreciated this in the book.
I didn't want the story to end and it was sad to say goodbye to the characters. The characters stayed in my mind a few days after finishing it.
I look forward to reading more from this author.
Highly recommend this book especially if you enjoy a great romance novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a grade A book April 27 2012

I really enjoyed reading the twists and turns of the plot in Montega's Mistress. It starts with Matteo appearing as a wounded escaped criminal brandishing a gun at Helen's doorstep, interrupting her work on her thesis. Despite his appearance, Helen takes care of him and saves his life. Helen, who is a beautiful, self-contained graduate student (also an heiress though she doesn't like that) can't help developing strong feelings for Matteo, a handsome, dedicated revolutionary of the Central American country, Puerto Linda. Matteo returns her feelings but feels he has to leave her forever...for her own good, of course. How Helen becomes involved in the revolution makes for exciting reading as her relationship with Matteo grows and deepens. Naturally, everything works out in the end but reading about how they get there is lots of fun.

Both Matteo and Helen have three-dimensional personalities but some of the minor characters were not done as well. The dialogue is well-written and authentic; it really moves the plot along nicely. The imagery is extremely well done; when Matteo and Helen are in the jungle is especially vivid and realistic.

This is a really good adventure story/romance and I would certainly recommend it to my friends who like this genre.
