Inside Scoop to Cleveland, July 6 2009
By C. K. - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Moon Cleveland (Paperback)
Finally a travel guide that provides the inside scoop, full of information on where to go from a local's perspective. I just moved to Cleveland and have found this guide to be very useful for family outings as well as date nights. Since I didn't grow up here, I also liked the historical fun-facts throughout this book.

Moon over Cleveland, Feb 2 2010

This review is from: Moon Cleveland (Paperback)
There are not that many guidebooks out there about Cleveland, so it's good that this one is excellent. It really even exceeds Moon's normal fine guide standards. There are several maps in here, each having symbols for attractions, hotels, restaurants and shops, also a clear map of the rapid transit system. Background of the city is given, including the fascinating Lake Erie Mirage effect to look for.
The one subject that was surprising and well done were the descriptions of the architecture in the city and surrounding neighborhoods, including the fascinating and amazing Arcade. Without this guide we would have missed this marvelous factor in our visit to the city and missed seeing the Christmas Story House. Hints are well done, especially on rules for cameras in museums and information about touring them especially probably the main tourist attraction; the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Many of the restaurants listed have either changed hours or closed completely, there are also some changes in some of the attractions days and times, but in this hard economy that is to be expected and with the phone numbers, addresses and web sites given, it always pays to check anyway. The index and information arrangement are well done and easy to navigate through. This is certainly a must if you want to see this under appreciated gem of a city.

Best Guide Books for US Cities, Nov 21 2009

I bought this as a gift for a friend who just moved to Cleveland and hasn't had a lot of time to explore, and I used it to plan my trip when I visited him. Moon handbooks seem to have attractions for visitors and residents alike, with a good mix of smaller and larger venues. The neighborhood maps with recommendations clearly labeled by category in color are extremely helpful, so you can quickly get an idea of the neighborhood you're looking at, e.g., is it densely packed with restaurants, bars, or cultural attractions? I also bought the Baltimore version.
