Great quilts, whether or not you've read the books., Dec 13 2011

Featuring eleven quilts mentioned in five of Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek Quilts novels, this book features many traditional block patterns in the designs. There are three sampler quilts in the mix and three of the quilts include some applique. Though Jennifer's careful instructions could make it possible for a beginner to complete some of the designs without too much trouble, there is no rating system for the quilts in the book to let people know what difficulty level to expect. There are quilts that include set-in seams, curved seams, and some of them require making templates from the paper diagrams included. I don't think this book is geared to beginning level quilters.
The beautiful quilts are divided into sections by the books from which they come. At the beginning of each section you will find character sketches of people from the book, and some excerpts that mention the quilts in the patterns.
You don't need to have read the novels to appreciate the quilts featured, but being familiar with the novels may give you a stronger attachment to one pattern or another. I had only read one of the novels when I picked up this book. I hadn't read any of the novels mentioned in this book, but I love the quilts.

This is a wonderful quilt book, and in my opinion a must have! I have bought all of the Elm Creek quilt novels. As well, I have purchased all three of the quilting books that go along with the Elm Creek novels. The quilting books are wonderful and have some beautiful quilts in them. This last one is the best of all the quilting books. I love it!

I read the Elm Creek quilt themed fictional books. These pattern books match the quilts mentioned in the books. It's really fun to actually see the quilts, plus the patterns are clear, well written and the illustrations are very clear! The Wedding Quilt: An Elm Creek Quilts NovelAn Elm Creek Quilts Sampler: The First Three Novels in the Popular Series (Elm Creek Quilters Novels)
