From Amazon.com

Two years before Mitch Albom wrote his bestselling book Tuesdays with Morrie, Ted Koppel did a series of three interviews with the extraordinary Morrie Schwartz for ABC's Nightline. Schwartz, a retired sociology professor from Brandeis University, was dying of Lou Gehrig's disease; before he passed away, he wanted to share the wisdom that comes from the experience of knowing you are going to die, and to give advice to others on how to behave when facing death. His most important message--choose how you want to confront your death, and don't let go of that--comes through over and over in everything Schwartz says and does. Consistently cheerful, remarkably clear, and mentally strong, Schwartz touches with his special view of the world. Although in each interview he is progressively sicker, his words are uplifting and meaningful. With bluntness he tells Koppel of his physical situation, and the two grow obviously fond of each other. Both sad and wise, this video is a must-see, as it is an experience we all shall face, hopefully with the grace and attitude of Morrie Schwartz. --Jenny Brown

Morrie: Lessons on Living is an uplifting set of interviews from ABC News' Nightline series. The interviews, broadcast in three episodes, focus on the inspiring story of Morrie Schwartz, a retired sociology professor from Brandeis University, and his personal battle with the devastating and degrading effects of Lou Gehrig's disease. Schwartz charmed America in 1995 with his loving soul and spunky vitality as he shared his gentle philosophies on life in several conversations with Ted Koppel. Among many topics, they discussed what Schwartz learned over a lifetime of experiences: lessons on humanity, love, compassion, and death.

Two years after these interviews were broadcast, Schwartz's lessons were shared in a national bestselling book, Tuesday's with Morrie, written by sportswriter and bestselling author Mitch Albom. Albom, a former student of Schwartz's in the '70s, reconnected with his mentor after viewing the Nightline broadcasts. Albom's book chronicles the life lessons learned from his weekly conversations with Schwartz in the months before he succumbed to the disease. No. 1 on the Los Angeles Times Bestsellers List, it was called "A wonderful book, a story of the heart told by a writer with a soul."
