4.0 out of 5 stars Kombat Begins, April 26 2010

Mortal Kombat came in the mail today with its sequel, MK:A.

On the outset, the story plays pretty decently, most of the characters portrayed are from the first game, with the exception of Kitana. Though, in the novel, Meleena was also featured.

The video is definitely an improvement over the DVD, though as many have stated, it is not the best master. It is definitely an upgrade.

Though the audio is for the most part crisp and clear, it is in fact low. But, if you want to think of it as a reason, it does allow you to have one to kick up your suround sound up as loud as you ultimately want.

Features are non-existant, though from what I know, there really wasn't much worthy of porting over from the DVD release. At least the DVD that I own.

Mortal Kombat on Blu-ray is definately the best release of the film to date. While this won't be a reference quality disc for video or audio, the visuals are a big step-up from the DVD. If you're expecting to find lossless audio, you'll be disappointed, but the audio is no worse than the DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent transfer in my book!!, Nov 11 2010

Is this movie a flawless victory? No. There is no menu screen and no extra's. The sound level is a bit low (I had to turn my system up about 5 clicks beyond normal) but from there it sounded pretty good but nothing great, in fact I think the sound needed more work than the video transfer because although the transfer is showing a 1080i on my TV screen (and on the case itself), the movie looks VERY clean to my eye. WELL worth the upgrade from DVD!!

I can't say the movie itself has aged particularly well, but I've seen far worse from '95. I'd say Mortal Kombat is a slow starter with an awesome middle and a rather lackluster ending that unfortunately only inspired the dreadful sequel. However this movie suffers from nothing that capsized the next installment as all the parts are firmly in place here; the cast is superb, the effects are practical/effective, and the story is simple and yet engaging..

Please do NOT pass on this as purchase based on the negativity here regarding the transfer, especially at the paltry sum of $10! Mortal Kombat is the best videogame to movie vision around so you may as well enjoy it in 1080i Blu Ray because there is absolutely NO word of a U.S. release or a 1080p transfer, so why wait forever??

This is a region 1 release, it plays flawlessly in my U.S. PS3.
