Book Description

April 6 2010
"The longest, most difficult, and most perilous motorcycle journey ever attempted." The Bicycling World and Motorcycle Review "Anyone who desires to diverge from the beaten path and visit points that may be of peculiar interest to him personally, the motorcycle is undoubted the only satisfactory means of travel." Syracuse Herald "One must die sometime and to die with one's boots on is very noble." Carl Stearns Clancy while riding his motorcycle at night in Spain, 1913. This travelogue originally authored by Clancy is for the avid motorcycle adventurist, the travel dreamer thirsting for motorcycle touring. Clancy circled the globe during 1912-1913 on a 1912 motorcycle. There were no GPSs, ATMs, Internet, and often no gas, roads or motorcycle repair shops. It describes the first motorcycle global adventure ride by the man who survived a dream quest with his gun, determination, grit, and guts. Edited by author Dr. Gregory W. Frazier, "America's #1 extreme motorcycle adventurer," who has raced, ridden, and repaired motorcycles over 1,000,000 miles and five times around the world. Best-selling author, journalist, film producer and professional photographer, Frazier's works include 14 books and 10 films. He says of motorcycle adventures, "I hate adventure that involves snakes or sharks."

5.0 out of 5 stars Have to Read This Book!!!!!!! July 15 2010

Well move over Emilio Scotto, Helge Pederson, The Striking Viking, and the great TED SIMON...there is a new explorer hero in town and he goes by the name of Carl Stearns Clancy. I thought that Emilio Scotto was the man after riding a Honda Gold Wing in sneakers around the world on roads that it would have been challenging to ride a 2010 KTM 200EXC all tricked out for the ISDE (International Six Day Enduro)on, but Clancy riding around the world in 1912-1913 on a 1912 Henderson Motorcycle which was nothing more than a motorized bicycle is totally insane. To see the actual pictures taken from this period throughout the book and to read the thoughts of this wonderful writer is just the most wonderful gift I could have ever given myself. Thank you author Gregory Frazier for discovering this incredible work of art and endurance. Heck the only guy I know on earth TOUGH ENOUGH to handle this journey in the conditions that this man had to endure on the road system that existed in 1912-1913 is the great BRETT FAVRE. Buy this book and bask in the warmth of such beautiful writing and expressive description of the areas of the world this man had the guts to explore in an age where 99% of the worlds population did not even venture 25 miles down the road to the next village or town.

Readers must remember, this was 100 years ago and this story would have been lost if it wasn't for this author. Looking for an adventure novel this isn't it. Looking for history and a written log on how difficult travel was 100 years ago, then this is the book for you.
4.0 out of 5 stars A good read April 22 2013

Story was good. It seemed at some points that interesting detail was edited out though. I would have liked more info on the Henderson motorcycle and what it took to keep it going.
