But this portrait of the young Che Guevara (later to become a militant revolutionary) is half buddy-movie, half social commentary--and while that may seem an unholy hybrid, under the guidance of Brazillian director Walter Salles (Central Station) the movie is quietly passionate. Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna, a lusty and engaging actor) set off from Buenos Aires, hoping to circumnavigate the continent on a leaky motorcycle. They end up travelling more by foot, hitchhiking, and raft, but their experience of the land and the people affects them profoundly. No movie could affect an audience the same way, but The Motorcycle Diaries gives a soulful glimpse of an awakening social conscience, and that's worth experiencing. --Bret Fetzer

This film was bought principally because of who starred in it - Gael Garcia Bernal. I'm a big fan of this very solid actor. What a Treasure this film is! Cinematography was wonderful, the story was amazingly intriguing about Che Guavera (I didn't know almost anything about Guavera, so I was very enlightened - happily). As most of this story was based on the travels of these two young men, it was even of more interest given the adventure it became. It was a wonderfully entertaining and riveting story, with a strong storyline, amazing photography, super cast, and a very very strong cast especially the two leads. I can't say enough about Gael Garcia Bernal - he's amazed me with his work in everything I've seen him in. If he's in it, I'm interested to see it on that alone. I'd highly recommend this film - a jewel!

What is the hype?
