4.0 out of 5 stars "HE WHOSE HEAD TOUCHES THE SKY", Oct 15 2011

This review is from: Mountain Jack Pike 07 Russian Bear (Paperback)

This book is #7 in the Mountain Jack Pike series of books published from 1988 through 1993. The author is "Joseph Meek" but we all know him as Robert J. Randisi. These books offer interesting reads concerning a couple of mountain men by the names of Jack Pike and 'Skins' McConnell.

In this adventure both Pike & McConnell are broke, as they nearly always are, so they agree to an offer from a Russian, Ivan Koloff, to pay them well if they will act as guides on a hunt high in the mountains for grizzly bears. There will be several Russians in the hunting party, plus an American government man, Charles Severance, and a couple of women: Vanya Ivoroff, an attractive, dark haired, "hard-lovin'" Russian gal and a Crow Indian squaw named Sun Rising, brought along as cook.

As one of Mountain Jack Pike's friend Clark at Clark's Fort states before the party leaves his settlement, this hunting group "is trouble looking for a place to happen.". Pike agrees but goes anyway. Unknown to Jack at that time, he and McConnell will barely escape with their lives.

Under attack by both man and a large 12-foot grizzly bear and his mate, this is one hunting trip neither Pike nor McConnell will be able to soon forget! Plus they will end up as broke as they started!

Good reading pards.
