5.0 out of 5 stars Fun ending to the Triology, Aug 2 2011
By Heidi S. Mcdade "heidimcdade" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Mousebeards Revenge 3 (Hardcover)
My sons really enjoyed the entire Mousehunter trilogy. The loved the descriptions and images of the different types of mice at the beginning of each chapter and were very excited to discover how the story ended.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting ending to a good series..., Mar 4 2010
By E. Ambrose "Fellshot" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Mousebeards Revenge 3 (Hardcover)
The story's world is marked by numerous different breeds of mice used for all sorts varying jobs, from flying mice delivering messages to big smelly mice used to make fertilizer like cows.

This book concludes the Mousehunters trilogy. Previously, Emiline and Scratcher, both junior mousecatchers, had had a falling out with Isiah Lovelock... leading them to fall in with the pirate Mousebeard, who has a score to settle with Lovelock. To say that all plans go fairly awry in this book would be understating it just a little. There is much mayhem and this definitely reads like a conclusion to a series. There's enough recapping spread through the first several chapters that if you've read The Mousehunters and The Curse of Mousebeard you probably won't be particularly lost. If you haven't, then the story will likely read as little more than an action-y romp with some key explanations along the way.

The story doesn't pick up right where The Curse of Mousebeard left off, instead allowing events in the narrative universe to settle for a year before setting a plan into action. I said it before regarding the two previous books and I'll say it again here. I love how Milway crafts character that look simple but are not. and how there are so many shades of grey in his work. Between Mousebeard and Lovelock, there were points where I respected one but not the other and then it would switch during certain parts of the narrative. I felt that all the characters progressed in some way overall and enjoyed the ending immensely.

I think this story actually would have benefited from a little more focus on how Mousebeard and company planned out their strategy instead of just seeing it carried out, but there were several scenes that I thought very well done. The scene where Lovelock questions Emiline and Scratcher was especially well done and one of the sadder moments in the book.

For anyone looking for a book that their animal-loving kid will enjoy, I highly recommend the the read. For anyone with a few hours to spare for a light story with deeper undertones, I also recommend the read.
