This record is quickly becoming my favorite. Brace's guitar, more raw than ever. Beth's voice is the kind that gets in your soul and stays there. And Kathy's beat pulls it all together.
No No No will make you dance, Light Light Sleep and Nite will get inside you Beth gives it to you for reals....and that's just three...do yourself a favor and get this record

In the revival of garage rockers like the White Stripes, the Hives, and the Strokes, it is unfortunate that the Gossip are often overlooked. This Oly via Arkansas trio have pounded out foot stomping blues flavored punk for several years now; and there newest release finally fufills the promise of their first gritty ep. The powerful lead vocals of Beth Ditto reach new heights as she moan, howls, and seduces the listner througout the album. Her voice's intesity is matched by rough swagger of Nathan's guitar work. Just listen to the opening track "Nite", rarely has the gutwrenching emptiness of a night alone been expressed so fully in so few words. Simply powerful.

Toe-tapping, head-bopping, butt-shaking soulful rocking bluesy garage stuff to make your neighbors pound on the wall screaming, "Oh, jeeze, turn it down, will you?" You are supposed to play this CD loud, and after a few listens, you will find yourself wishing you too could belt out the blues like Beth (lead singer) can. If you think the Black Keys are the bees knees, try this as well. Imagine if Janis Joplin ran head long into a delta-blues band who clashed right into the Ramones, and you have The Gossip.

whether in a group of their fans at a concert or all by your lonesome, it's perfect. i hate to dance and when i hear this band, i have to dance, i can't stop myself.
they are blues-punk-gospel and brilliant. i loved their other albums and was very excited when i heard of this one. and i was not in the least let down. beth sings so well it's staggering, brace plays guitar like no-one else, and kathi is a genius on the drums. this album is a little, and i do mean a little, more polished than the others but still has the punk sensibility as the others. there are very few bands that have albums that can function as a whole and as separate songs, but the gossip manages it brilliantly. and at the end listen for the "hidden" track after "light light sleep."
so go buy this now. it's worth every penny.
and also look out for their live cd coming out sometime in the fall on the dimmak label. they are one of the best, if not the best, live groups i have ever seen.
