Don't hold the fact that this picture was remade with Tom Hanks as The Money Pit. This is a really charming story. Grant,Loy and Douglas provide the innocent romantic triangle.
Grant plays Mr Blandings, a New York advertising executive who dreams of a home in Connecticut, don't forget to be careful what you wish for! A series of wonderful gags underscore the less encouraging aspects of building the sort or rural retreat many an urban dweller thinks he wants. Blandings city background hasn't prepared him to match wits with backwoods businessways.
His frustrations and reactions are comic timing at its best. The mishaps are comic but ring true enough that it gives a edge of humour that is relatable even today. If you've never seen it before or don't usually buy old movies this is a good one to start with.

If you're a do-it-yourself-er, you owe it to yourself to watch this movie! A lot of the gags in this film are truly timeless. If you've ever found yourself being asked (for example, by a contractor) questions that go over your head, this flick will be a scream. You'll especially enjoy parts such as: CARPENTER-"On them second floor lintels between the lally columns, do you want we should rabbet them or not?" Blandings-"Oh..uh...No, I guess not." CARPENTER-"Hey, fellas, you got any of them rabbeted lintels set, rip 'em out! *boards start flying off all over the house* Blandings- "It sounded less... expensive to say no."

The original is the best

Great Cary Grant movie, if not as great as others.
While this film is not exactly the best from Cary Grant, it remains enjoyable, and is easily worth all of the stars that have been given.
